The replacement works fine; however, I'd recommend using different washers because the ones that come with the de-icer are very stiff and hard and you don't get a good seal because of that. I used more pliable ones and got a perfect seal on the first try.
Relative to electric bills - well, this uses 1500 watts - so you can expect a rise in your bill, of course. I plug this in about 11PM and unplug at first rays of sunlight. In addition to this de-icer I also run 2 16-gallon tanks and have been using a 1500 watt heater in the house for a few hours a day. My electric bill doubled which is pretty good considering all I had using electric.
The net is.........if you want to use a de-icer, this one is good and it's only logical to expect a rise in your electric bill.
