Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreS–Each spread of this simple, and simply lovely, board book features one animal. A large embossed silhouette in white and the name of the animal in clear black letters appear on the right. Some shapes are glossy, inviting young fingers to explore. On the left, the same image, miniaturized, interacts with itself in clever tessellations. The final page reads, “animals on the farm” and shows the six animals featured. The backgrounds are done in slightly grainy solid colors that lend a retro look. There is little detail to trigger conversation, but adults will love the artistry, and children never tire of identifying animals and making sound effects.–Amelia Jenkins, Juneau Public Library, AKα(c) Copyright 2013. This book is great for a baby, each page has one word and a colored animal to match. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because it's boring. It's pretty much the book my daughter abuses she's more engaged in her other books.
But for babies that need to learn how to actually hold, look, and open a book. This one is great.

I was very disappointed. I expected a book similar to the books "Zoo" and "Ocean" by the same author that my daughter absolutely loves. This book doesn't catch my daughter's attention at all. She never picks it of the shelf to "read".

This is a great book for little ones! I bought this for my daughter (11 months) last month and she LOVES it! She's fascinated by the animals and will "talk" to them and point. I love that this book works on animals, their sounds, colors, and describing. I'll be buying the other books in the series for Christmas and her birthday!

I don't understand what is the big deal about this book. There is literally nothing in there. One animal per page and that's it, nothing else. I don't even find the drawings pretty. I returned the book.

We love this book. We first bought Zoo Animals by the same author last year and so i decided to look for another. We ordered Farm and its great. My grandaughter just adores these books.

We received the set of 3 (Ocean, Farm, Zoo) as a gift when our daughter was about 7 months old. We showed the books to her at nap/bed time and she would stare at the pages. As she grew older and more mobile, she would take these books off the shelf herself and looks at them every day. In addition to the cool pictures, the books introduce colors and counting too. I did have to tape a few spots, but that's our fault because we let her look at the books on her own. Now I know to keep the "better" books out of reach.

My son loves this book! It is one of his favorites. He has been enjoying it since he was 2 months old - he's now 10 months and still wants to read it multiple times a day. He likes it so much we bought the other books in this series (Zoo, Ocean, Polar - they are good books too but Farm! is by far the best). I buy this often for friends with babies. Only drawback is that it is very large! Hard to hold your baby and the book at the same time. But its unique and a great rhyming book. I highly recommend this book!

My mom got this book for my daughter when she was about 18 months. At first glance my daughter liked it. But after unfolding some of the pictures she got scared. Now she's 2 and loves the book. I'm not sure if it was the size of the fold outs or the animals themselves that scared her, but she's fully gotten over her fear. The rhymes are cute and i think the illustrations are pretty nice.
