This is not your mother's Star Trek

Farscape: The Complete Season 2 I saw the "Peace Keeper Wars" and that was my first introduction to Farscape. I watched the 3+ hour long show on Amazon Instant Video and my first impression was "they got to be kidding". So I watched it again being all US male I thought that the ladies of Farscape were intriguing. Chiana, delicious, Ayern, ooh smoking in a dark quiet sort of way. Secousu (sorry about the spelling), very hot. Jool, made me drool, and of course Zahn, wow, what can I say. Other than that, I thought that the character interplay was unique so I believe I watched the last episode/mini-movie about 10-times and decided I would find out more about this show that was made by son of a legend Jim Henson. Brian Henson and his pals got together and allowed the actors to explore the characters and this is what resulted.
The bad guys and girls are totally vicious and malevolent. The good guys pull out of the fire at the very last moments always and the show always has time to be sexy. There are more push-up bras than at JC Penney's. Aside from the obvious unlike Star Trek; you have a bunch of thieves, killers, ex-prisoners and maniacs on a living ship with a symbiotic pilot that becomes a target for every criminal in the galaxy. Like I say a good mix of action, violence, good guy to the rescue with consequences and throw in a liberal amount of sexy and you have "Not Your Mother's Star Trek! Good stuff. Unfortunately the transfer to DVD is not the best and all but the fourth season and the Peace Keepers War are in the 4:3 screen format. This is a Sci-Fi event that collectors must have.

The whole bloody show is marvelous!

When I first ran across this, it was being broadcast on Sci-Fi channel, I think. I dropped in during the middle section of the series and thought it was a bit too much on the psycho-sexual side of things for me. But I did watch most of the last season and the Peace Keeper Wars (which was great, too - nice epilogue).

I decided to buy the whole series, part of which was out of print. So it was a bit expensive (and now it's nice to see a reissue for the whole series under a hundred bucks). Nevertheless, I plunged in.

Watching the series from the very beginning, taking about two months to do so (purchasing each season as I could find them at reasonable prices, often only in used condition), I began to see what made this series so good.

While it did seem to bog down in the third season, as though it had lost its way a bit, overall, it recovered and continued the story arc to its inevitable conclusion in The Peace Keeper Wars (necessary to have 'closure' to the story).

I'm glad this only lasted four seasons. It didn't become a tedious boor as a result. The story arc had to progress as a result, giving us some quite compelling story telling and overall good acting throughout the whole series (with a few exceptions).

It is the same with Battlestar Galactica, the new series, not too long...just right. Story writers today forget the old axiom: leave them wanting more, not wishing it would end already!

If you are a fan of science fiction with higher quality imagery and fully developed characters, good dialogue (most of the time), and a willingness to poke fun at itself, keeping from getting tooo serious at times, this is a good series to get. Buy the complete series, not these single season packs.

Loved this show back in 2000 when it first came out on SciFi network, even if some of the episodes are a bit cheesy and poorly written. Missed numerous episodes due to what seemed like flaky broadcast schedules (the show seemed to disappear from SciFi for weeks at a time and then would randomly reappear, and I missed season 3+ entirely). Gives me a chance to catch up with what I missed, and the show doesn't seem dated at all, despite being 15 years old now (hard to believe its been that long!)

Show is Amazing, Box Set is Cumbersome

Definitely one of the most inventive shows ever put on television, however this set isn't the world's most streamlined. Obviously that's a function of age, now adays you can get a case that isn't much bigger than you'd have for a single movie and it holes the whole season. This is really just a box that holds all of the previously released sets of several episodes a piece. It's an old clunky way of releasing these things and thank god it's gone the way of the dodo.

Setting that aside, this is probably my favorite season. Things started shaking up in Season 3, but this one really worked with the characters you fell in love with in the first season.

Farscape Season 2- A great new sci-fi series

Being a sci-fi fan of the 'old school', ie: Trek, Stargate SG1, etc., I thought I would check out Farscape, something new for a change. Also, I thought both Ben Browder and Claudia Black, from Stargate SG1 to make a great team...paired up for this show a selling point for me. I admit, at first I felt a bit out of my comfort zone in Farscape Season 1;however, by Season 2, I really started to enjoy this show. The effects are very good, as are some of the story lines. One episode in particular, 'the Three Chrichton's', when the lead character, lost astronaut, Chrichton gets split into three by an energy wave that divides him by pre- and post human evolution both fun and thoughtful. Another interesting twist is the inter relationships of the 'crew'. Unlike a 'spit and polish' crew of most sci-fi, this lot are not the best of the best, and do not always have their crew mates interests at heart. However, they grow on each other, as they do on the viewer and can be forgiven any eccentricities.
The effects are very good in terms of some of the characters [Jim Henson creations],as is the sets...I would have loved to see more 'space' scenes though- I think the effects would have been dramatic. I look forward to purchasing Season 3.

Extremely mixed standard of episodes. Beginning of this Season is a let down after the end of Season 1.

However, the main characters continue to be a major strength of this series. The episodes 'Won't Get Fooled Again' and 'Die Me Dichotomy' are highlights and worth viewing more than once. So is the 'Blooper' reel that is more than just bloopers. Other 'extras' mostly disappointing, except for the commentary on the final episode.

Mixed series from an often great programe. Fortunately the next Season, Season 3, is great and as good as Farscape gets.

I didn't really watch this show at the time, I caught the odd episode now and then and thought the show was insane. Also I thought it was a kids show (how wrong could I be!). After seeing both Ben and Claudia in Stargate, I thought I would give it another chance as there is very little sc-fi around now (2012). I accutually like the show now, although it's still mad! Season one was slightly better, but it's still a very watchable show. I wish they started making it in the 16:9 ratio for the beginning, this was the year 2000 after all! The biggest bug bear I have is the dreadful box that is comes in. It's so difficult to get some of the disc's out of these dreadful boxes.

In fact you should buy all 4 seasons and the peacekeeper wars.......Season 2 is great liars gun n money stands out for me but the whole thing is a pleasure....
