Its humor will entertain younger readers, and the characters are intriguing enough to hold up a story that owes much to the Harry Potter series. --Booklist
About the Author
J. Scott Savage grew up in northern California. He now lives in Northern Utah in a windy little valley of the Rocky Mountains. He has a wonderful wife who has somehow stuck with him for more than twenty years, four great kids, a spastic border collie, and although his fish didn't survive the winter freeze, he now has a red-eared slider turtle that thinks it's a demolition expert.

The first couple chapters are interesting enough to read, but they aren't particularly gripping. I was actually still concerned after the second chapter about the quality of the book. But once the worlds are established, the rocky part is over.
4 and 5 star reviews are common if someone merely likes a work that it's hard to believe positive reviews. The fact that this one had no negative reviews (save a formatting error that was fixed) intrigued me, and since the work was free I figured I had nothing to lose but an hour or two of my time. I'm really glad I took the risk. Savage does a fantastic job in this work. It is surprisingly believable with characters that are relateable.
It is not just for "middle grade" - it's solidly enjoyable for adults as well. I look forward to reading the next book.
This is the theme of FarWorld..."the magic is already inside you."
How many times do we wonder if we have what it takes to move forward, to conquer fears, to do a really hard task? Marcus and Kyja are finding out "FarWorld Book One" and they must find their own magic. Is the magic strength, brilliant ideas, bravery, compassion or is it really magic?
Mr. Savages book is a fun, intense, fast-moving fantasy. I had to keep reading because of the twists and turns the story takes. The book is good, clean reading with humor and lessons throughout.
I enjoyed watching Marcus and Kyja grow and learn and come to terms with what they thought were their weaknesses.
The book is obvious in pointing out black and white, good and bad, scary and safe. I will admit, the bad guys made me nervous! How do two thirteen year-old kids stay out of the clutches of evil and save their two worlds?
I am so happy to be able to change my rating from 1 to 3 stars; what a difference that made in reading experience.
This is a great story for kids. I enjoyed the animals and their lame jokes. This book would be great for discussions in a reading class.
My 8-yr old son also gives it a 5 star review: "It's so amazing! I loved it."
