Notes for Levitron Ion (possible AG version also)
1) Rotating the wrong direction can easily be corrected by using three rare earth magnets placed on the half round base where they stick roughly in a 4" inch circle under the earth. Magnets I use are 1/2 diameter 1/16 thick. Place them at the 12 o'clock 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock positions after Earth is already levitated. This gives my globe a 10 second for 360 degree revolution time. Also, Placing them on the felt pad of the magnet inside the globe rather then on the platform also seems to work and you don't have to see the magnets. Just place them at 12-4-8 on the pad inside the globe - then close it up and set it in levitation. Seems to spin a little faster this way. Will need a initial gentle push once it is levitated. Seems to be Perpetual
2) Placing the globe in levitation - sometime it is easy - sometimes it is impossible (or so I thought) I found an easy trick to get it to set without much effort. Follow instructions with one additional tip. Lowering gently, level, and evenly from 12" up. If it does not levitate and is being drawn from center - Simply rotate the globe 10 or so degrees (along the equator) and try again, continue rotating until it levitates. you may have to rotate it 180 degrees. It is using magnets and there is a variance of polarity.
3) The silver line equator - what's with that - I simply used a black permanent marker and darkened it. Now it does not stand out and gives it a more real look.
Hope this helps you enjoy this marvelous wonder it is really cool It's a great conversation piece. Mine floats 1/2" above the base good enough to slop a ruler or paper under it to amaze friends $80 seems a fare price for the technology required. When it is always rotating it really is fascinating.
