Product description

The Metal Earth models are amazingly detailed etched models that are fun and satisfying to assemble. Each model starts out as 4 inch square metal sheets and you simply pop out the pieces using wire cutters and follow the included directions to assemble your model. The Farm Tractor is a simple open vehicle with two very large driving wheels on an axle below and slightly behind a single seat with the engine in front of the driver and two steerable wheels below the engine compartment. This basic design has remained unchanged for many years. The model is 2.85x1.75x1.75 inches when built. Difficulty level: Challenging. No glue or solder needed.

Challenging tread but love the look

Great model, have built 8 of these metal models so far. One thing I will say though is do the steering wheel and seat at the very end - otherwise trying to assemble the rest of the trackor could result in you accidentally bending the wheel or seat while installing the rest. By far the tractor tread was the hardest on this model though.

I recommend for the wheels to use either a pen, Sharpie, or highlighter to bend the round parts around, this will help them keep the best shape. For the exhaust pipes use a nail to bend the best around.

Because of how intricate these are I also recommend using the following tools (I purchased these and it made the process of making these much easier):

- ($4.37) Hakko CHP-170 Micro Soft Wire Cutter, 1.5mm Stand-off, Flush Cut, 2.5mm Hardened Carbon Steel Construction, 21-Degree Angled Jaw, 8mm Jaw Length, 16 G

- ($3.23) 5 Inch Long Reach Needle Nose Pliers Jeweler Hand Tool

- (optional but really helped in the tiny areas) ($19.30) Xuron 450BN Bent Nose Plier

This was my second model I assembled. Learned a few things after the first one. This one went together much better (some pieces had a little hard time lining up/fitting together). I made this for my dad who loves JD tractors and use to have one on the farm when he was a kid. He LOVES it and proudly displays on the computer desk at home (along with the Mustang model I had done before this one). I have purchased many other ones and can't wait to keep doing them.

Metal Tractor model was really challenging, and fun

I originally bought these for my Father in law who is 84. But when it came in a flat package the size of a cd, I thought, oh wow, this is going to be way to challenging for him. So I gave it to my hubby for Christmas. He loved doing these! I bought 2 different models, this one(tractor) and a Model T car. The instructions were clear and easy to understand, we found using tweezers and needle nose pliers were the easiest way to bend the tabs, to make the parts. They turned out really cool looking, when he got them done! It's amazing that a flat metal piece can turn into the objects like this! Awesome. I will be buying more!

This tractor and I got along very well until the back tire treads which are very delicate and since you only get one good chance to bend these it's frustrating trying to get them to fold and bend into place correctly the first time. The instructions could be better since sometimes they are definitely not clear enough, there is a whole piece that fits underneath that had almost no instructions and does not show the way it needs to bend, just how to attach it. It was a fun little project overall, I kind of work on them a few minutes at a time over the course of a week so it maybe took 2 hours altogether to complete.

Great kit but not for beginners!

First off, this is a great little kit that looks very nice when finished BUT I would not recommend it for kids and it has some issues with the instructions that keeps me from giving it 5 stars. The biggest pain I had was trying to get the front wheel subassembly to fit in place when called for in the instructions, I highly recommend fitting it in place as you fit the side plates in place.
I have built 6 different Metal Earth kits so far and they are all very nice when finished but I'd start with a simpler one first in order to get used to them. I'd recommend maybe the Empire State building as a nice first kit.

Consumer advice: Don't try it with your bare hands, not even when you have tiny hands and strong nails.

Fun and challenging to build

Fun and challenging to build. Make sure you have a strong pair of tweezers and a good, small needle-nosed pliers. If you want it to be stable (mine was quite wobbly), I suggest gluing the key points (wheels to axle, etc) to make your puzzle more structurally sound.

And that's when I place my first order for a lase cut model of a tractor. It comes as two sheets of metal with all the pieces cut to precision. And there is a highly detailed step-by-step map included with it. The item reached well before the estimated delivery date and I am still in process of making it (80% done). It is very easy to make and is a good decorative item. I have already bough 5 of these models and intend to have a library of all the available ones !!! Value for money ;)
