Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Cruz and Robinovitz, the effusive authors of How To Become Famous in Two Weeks or Less, now offer a combination of a self-help guide for 20-something, Cosmo-guzzling women and an ode to their own oh-so-fabulous lives. According to the authors, the road to divahood can be arduous, but following their advice will help guide the way (or at least ensure that readers are wearing the right clothes while they make their attempt). The book has chapters on building a "fashionista closet," becoming a smart shopper and using make-up wisely, and brings readers up to speed on chic cocktail conversation (for example, any fashionista worth her salt knows how to talk the talk when it comes to A-list destinations, Pedro Almodóvar’s oeuvre and the lessons of kabbalah). For readers who don’t have the patience to sit through a chick-lit novel but want to read something besides Page Six and Harper’s Bazaar, this completely frivolous handbook may be just the thing.

Review

“Stylish, sophisticated, and sharper than a four-inch Louboutin stiletto . . . As always, Melissa and Karen hit it perfectly.”
–LAUREN WEISBERGER, author of The Devil Wears Prada

“3 F’s . . . Fun, Fashion, and Feminine . . . an easy read and a permanent smile.”
–DIANE VON FURSTENBERG, designer

“Imagine a book that tells you not only what designers to wear, but how to pronounce them! Not only what time to arrive, but what to do once you get there! This is an indispensable guide to worshiping at the throne of fashion and fabulousness. J’adore it!”
–MICHAEL MUSTO, The Village Voice

These fashionistas elicit a response that is "Oh ! ??" not Jackie O! Anyone who reads this book in the hope of cultivating an individualized sense of style will not find much helpful information.

The book is amusingly written; the authors eloquently describe the adrenaline high of finding a jazzy item. But the text and photos do not convey that the individual items they rave about fit into any coherent style. In fact several outfits pictured in the book look very amateurish and the T-shirt slashing gimmicks come across like a rainy-day project for 8th grade girls.

The photos (and descriptions) of the girls' mothers, however, tell a different story. These ladies really seem to have an eye for glamour! I wish that the two moms had written a book on style.

Unless you intend to take this book seriously, you'll have fun from the first page to the last. It's sinfully gossipy, very chick bonding kind of vibe, if you're the type of gal who loves shopping... It's unapologetically shallow....Just the very thing to read if you want to escape from life for a while...Do not expect much and you will not be disappointed.

As the title suggests, this book is for fashionistas. It is not going to teach you how to better coordinate your wardrobe or develop your own personal style. If you're a fashionista, that is already second nature to you. If you want to have good, campy fun with designer clothing and better walk the walk and talk the talk of the fashion-obsessed, then you have hit on a goldmine. It's light-hearted and fun, full of good girlfriend-type tips about buying jeans and getting a bikini wax - stuff that Vogue doesn't tell you - that will enhance your fashionista-ness.

You can love fashion and you can LIVE fashion. Fashionistas are the latter ilk. If you can't tell the difference between a Choo and a Lou at 100 paces, then this book isn't for you.

This book is awesome! Karen and Melissa have once again succeeded in producing a comic, biting, witty and hilarious account of their adventures in the fashion world. Not only will their crazy stories leave you laughing out loud, but you will walk away feeling inspired to raid your closet and put your new fashionista tips to practice (and maybe with an urge to go shopping!)

At times satirical, at times serious, this book encapsulates everything the fashionista needs to know - whether you're a teenage amateur searching for your own style, or a well-seasoned pro at picking out your Jimmy Choo's. Not only is this book fun, but it's actually PRACTICAL!! (like the one section in which they teach you how to correctly pronounce the names of well-known fashion designers - it's Verr-sah-chie not Ver-says!) So fun and so true - Karen and Melissa dare to say what is secretly going through everyone's minds, while maintaining a fun and not-too-serious attitude.

If you've ever wanted to know the difference between a shift and a sheath, or a Kelly and a Birkin- or if you just want a fun, hilarious read - BUY THIS BOOK!!! YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!

I really enjoyed this read. It's got some good advice, but mostly, for me, it was just a fun, fun read. I am into the four-inch heels, myself, so it was a fantastic read. I'd recomemnd it to friends.

My mistake, I guess. I thought maybe it was another "The Devil Wears Prada". But it's not a send-up, it's a very lame advise book. Not fun to read at all.
