My five-year-old seems to have been born with a gene that is attracted to speed. He was constantly peppering me with questions about how fast different animals run, swim, and fly, and how that compares to how fast a car, motorcycle, or airplane can go. He likes to go fast himself, and, when not riding his bike, will race up and down our halls, then ask me how many mph or kph I think he just went. After doing some internet searches on comparative speeds of animals, and finding a variety of "facts," I finally discovered Fast, Faster, Fastest, and ordered it for my son through amazon.com. This paperback book flew into first place in our house as his "most-requested" book. The book progresses from pictures of the slowest of the fast animals, to the fastest. Each animal is shown zooming across the two-page spread, and the animal's speed is shown on a dashboard in mph and kph. After we read the book to him several times, my son began to memorize the speeds of the different animals, and the facts about them. Now he shares this information with his Kindergarten friends (and their parents!), and they all talk about how fast they can run, and how they compare with the animals. If your child loves animals and "going fast," this is the book for your family!

This was a great intro to our science unit on speed (preK and K homeschool). The book was interesting and kept the kids engaged. I referred to the text throughout our unit.

My grandsons 3,5, and 7 borrowed this book from the library and asked me to read it over, and over, and over. They loved it and so did I. So I purchased it for myself to have available for all of my grandchildren to enjoy.
