Highly recommended for any athlete at any level or if you just want to get into shape

I found this book fascinating. Motivation coupled with well-documented explanations of what's happening in your body when you do or eat this or that. I've personally seen the principles applied with measurable results through Max Testa Training. They use science to make the most out of limited time to exercise. This is as close to an "owners manual" for your body as you can get. I recommended this book to all the friends & family that I care about and I'll be buying a few copies to give out. Not many books are truly potential life-changers. This is one of them.

I enjoyed the book but found it extremely technical. It's probably too technical for your average guy who just wants to get in shape. I am 53 and have done many extreme workouts and I found it a bit over the top at points even for me. That said, I felt the book provided some solid recommendations on how to get more our of your training without training more....so to speak. They talk a lot about food and timing of when and how much too eat which is very helpful in being sufficiently nourished for a workout and being sufficiently nourished to recover from your workout. There are also solid guidelines for 5 levels of fitness from novice to pro athlete. A good read but be prepared for some parts that are very technical.

This was an excellent and informative read! Both doctors break down exactly what goes on in our bodies as we exercise and explain in great detail what and how to exercise for whatever goal you wish. I have been an athlete on and off for years and now understand what I need to do to age much beter than I have been. Thank you Eric and Max for both view points and professional advice!

Eric Heiden is a legend (especially if you live in skating mad Amsterdam, Holland). I was wondering how he achieved his remarkable sucess and came across this book and the [...] website.

Using the book has given me great insights into diet and helped me move my exercise program to the next level by having the tools and knowledge to set up my own program. It is much more effective and satisfying than following the prescribed regime I got at the gym.

What is especially helpful are the simple tests to find you're own optimal training zones. They feel a lot more effective than estimated HR Max zones I was using.

This book doesn't shed any groundbreaking new light on the subject, nor does it give you some gimmick and claim to transform your life in three weeks. Instread, it is a solid reference on the science of fitness in approachable language. A must read for anyone with an interest in the topic, and an excellent addition to the body of real work on the subject. I have read it twice already sine receiving it!
