Stryker and Katie are perhaps one of my most favourite NA characters ever. Why? Because they compliment one another so perfectly. Both aren't afraid to tell it like it is, each one is able to life the other out of the darkness that consumes them, both realize the importance of friends and family, and so forth. Aside from the characters, another strength of this book are the emotions- specifically the emotions resulting from a situation involving Katie. The depth and realism of these emotions are second to none- I literally had a stomachache/ heart palpitations while reading the scene as I can relate to it so well (this is only the third time ever that I have experienced a physical reaction to the emotions stemming from a book).
Additionally, like the previous book, I LOVED each and every one of the secondary characters in this installment I love the fact that they are truly each their own person/ extremely developed- you have no cookie-cutter or "blah" secondary characters here! I have no doubt that each of them could carry their own books.Read more ›
Faster We Burn is told by the POV of both Katie and Stryker. Their thoughts really complement each other's. The POVs don't just switch off randomly, like I've seen in some other books. The POV switches when it's beneficial to get in the other person's head. Also, both Katie and Stryker have a clear voice, and it's easy to tell the difference between them. You can tell that they're completely different people, but that's what makes them so perfect together.
Really, no matter whose head you're in, you can't help but love Katie and Stryker. Their personalities jump right off the page, and they both seem so real. They can trade insults and they can have meaningful conversations, but you know they're both terrified of admitting to themselves what they feel, and that makes them feel even more real.
I really didn't think I could like another book by Chelsea M. Cameron more than My Favorite Mistake, but Faster We Burn tops even that. I was so impressed I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.
I highly recommend Faster We Burn.
