Water-only fasting has taken a back-seat role compared with juicing over the last 50-60 years. Recent clinical research, however, is now showing that water-only fasting is superior to many other interventions for treating a range of diseases. Dr Randi Fredrick's has extensively researched the literature on water-only fasting, and her book is an excellent reference for anyone interested in studying the subject or even to undertake fasting themselves. It will remain a good reference book for many years to come.
There are different definitions and also different reasons for fasting. Fasting basically means to go without eating and drinking. Fasting is a practice used for achieving psychological and medical benefits. Fasting promotes wellness, extending our lives, preventing future illnesses, or treating existing diseases. For spiritual purposes, people occasionally combine fasting with their prayers, to stir up their zeal and renew their dedication and commitment to God. It is the most and common form of ascentism and it is found in every religion. Also, by fasting people can take a stand on political matters. Political fast - hunger strikes - has been around since antiquity as a method of protest and receiving justice.
Using original research, this book explains how fasting affects the body, the mind and the spirit. You will learn about the types of fasting, how to plan a fast, the psychological process of fasting and much more. Fasting truly is an exceptional human experience.
The book includes a clear description on fasting and I was able to plan my fasting usefully by reading this book. The book provides information on how fasting is used in different cultures and traditions as a religious activity and for spiritual enhancement. The book provides many medical facts and health tips on fasting and I find the content very valuable. The book provides research topics of fasting as well. This book provided me information on the practice of asceticism, well known as one of the oldest spiritual disciplines. If anyone needs to have a clear understanding on the topic of fasting I recommend this book not only for beginners but also for researchers on the subject as well.
The book is exceptional in regard to much information it encompasses while still being expressed in a clear, comprehensible way that the average reader can understand. It’s evident throughout the read that many hours of time and research have gone into laying the foundation for the ideas and concepts that the author makes in this book, and there are countless scientific sources mentioned that back up each of the aforementioned. As a natural skeptic and a person who often loves to indulge in further reading, I found this to be a great addition the book and it is one of the many reasons why I have not only enjoyed the read but also taken a lot of value from it. Author Randi Fredricks has left me more than satisfied!
One idea that I interpreted from Randi's work is that the act of fasting produces less activity in the body and that allows the human condition's spirit to influence the arena of thought more so than it does when the body is active. When the body is in high activity, it preoccupies thoughts with the body, and little room is left for the spirit's voice to be heard.
This book is a vessel of upper-level knowledge and a valuable read for any individual travelling the road only the spirit can see. To add, the book is easy to follow, the methods described are clear and concise, and the ideas are easily understood.
