Oh and as a nice side note during my first 21 day partial fast (I ate only fruits, veggies, rice, beans and oatmeal) after reading the book, I lost 22 lbs (more than 10% of my body weight) and have kept it off. This is significant because for the last 20 years or so I've been trying to lose weight and keep it off. I've lost weight but it always creeps back up 1 pound at a time after I stop doing the diet or activity I had done. I have tried EVERYTHING - training for a half-marathon, low carb diets, high protein diets, sugar-free diets, vegetarian, vegan, calorie cutting, something called the cabbage diet, you name it. Intermittently doing fasts is the only thing that has helped me learn to control urges to overeat, lose weight and keep the weight off.
Jentezen Franklin writes books that are easy to read. I began this book on a Saturday morning and could hardly put it down before I finished it just 3 days later. He takes a subject some think is taboo and talks openly about it, without judgement.
After I read this book the first time I actually purchases several copies to give to friends of mine that are interested in fasting, but don't know where to start. This is a great book for learning how to do just that!
God's ways and thoughts are higher than ours could ever be. As the Holy Spirit guides us through our individual life times of sanctification, He will lead us to fasting. My name has been in Christ's Book of Life, The Lamb's Book, for years and it has taken me a wilderness of struggle to realize the supernatural benefit of fasting. The apostle Paul wrote, inspired by the Holy Spirit, about how he kept "himself" in submission, that is his "flesh", allowing his spirit or " hidden man" to lead; indwelled and guided by the Holy Spirit of course. I often wondered how he did it. I asked the Helper and he opened my understanding to what fasting is really about.
May God continue to bless the author of this book and others who exhort those within the body of Christ. As always my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, always refer back to the Word to confirm what you've read by Scripture. The Truth, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, will set you free. Amen
