Reed weaves a taut tapestry of detail “ripped from the headlines” focusing on myriad undocumented aliens and the crimes associated with those who exploit desperate Hispanic and other immigrants: drug smuggling, human trafficking, and prostitution. You’ll find yourself rooting for Garner as he maneuvers through the many skillfully rendered plots in his quest to secure the evidence that will prove Dr. Medawar’s innocence.
You may also fall in love with the Lower Price Hill neighborhood watch group and the band of University of Cincinnati students and others who help the intrepid attorney fight against a wall of prejudice and real mortal danger. This novel has bad guys aplenty ganging up against a good hearted attorney and his friends. The bonus is a teasing love story with a hint of future bliss.
The injustice of arresting the husband, just based on skin color was absurd in thought, but happens in the real world more than you know.
The book was long, but amazingly I only noticed one typo, which is extremely rare, especially for such a detailed story.
We know from the beginning the husband didn't do it, but it wasn't until the end did we discover if he was going to be found guilty.
