I lost count on how many times Jess was arrested in the few days she was investigating the mystery surrounding this fourteen old boy who fell 40 feet while climbing a tree in a place many miles from his home.
So, I suggest you but this book, block out several hours and enjoy masterful storytelling of Diane Capri and Nigel Blackwell.
by Diane Capri and Nigel Blackwell
Another fast paced, twist and turning novel cowritten by two great authors, Diane Capri and Nigel Blackwell.
A little boy falls from a tree near a senator's property line. One fall. One event. Suddenly there is a lot of interest in regard to the little boy directly. As some answers are readily available, others take a longer time in arriving. Which then leads to more questions.
As authorities wait for the information and seek out answers, a larger group of people outside this small circle suddenly become invested in the child as well as what information is being sought out and why.
Pulled in from the beginning, "Fatal Fall," is a fast paced novel with many twists and turns. It keeps the reader on their toes. Just as they think they have things all figured out, another piece of the puzzle is thrown into the mix needing to be addressed and placed correctly where it belongs.
A novel full of surprises that holds the readers attention throughout, keeps them guessing, and has some surprising twists, "Fatal Fall" is another great Jess Kimball book. One I would recommend to anyone interested in this genre.
I was wrong.
By the second chapter, I was hooked and unable to put the book down. While taking a break, Jess hears of an injured, unidentified boy lying in a coma. He is of about the same age her missing son. There is enough similarity between her son and the injured boy that she goes to see him in an effort to help determine his identity with hopes that her search may be over.
That is when the story takes flight. We meet powerful and rising political figures, dangerous thugs, colorful small town characters and an entire community that has a mysterious, inter-related back-story that Capri weaves into a wonderfully intricate plot that draws the reader deeper into the story with each page turned. Diane has a knack for populating her books with well-rounded and believable characters that compliment the plot of her stories beautifully. There is just a touch of awkwardness in how easily one of the bad guys is dispatched. But, by the time this occurs, it doesn't impede the quickly accelerating, blood pumping storyline.
More than just a great stand alone tale, however, is the thorough fleshing out of Kimball's personal story. This is one of the things I admire about Daine Capri's writing. She is constantly moving us deeper into her character's personality and developing their personas. Most of us are familiar with the background of some great individual that was defined and driven by a single event in their life. Jess Kimball's moment is the disappearance of her toddler son. Far from being a worn-out plot device, it is part of her DNA. It has been formatively painful. But, instead of consuming her, it drives her passion for justice and fair treatment. Jess's thoughts and motivating forces are well-fleshed-out, and we are given an intimate look at a character that becomes more complex and fascinating with each installment.
Fatal Fall is a page turner, an extraordinarily engaging read and one that has made me a solid Jess Kimball fan. Nigel Blackwell brings a delightful element of tension to Diane's writing, which seems to elevate to a new level with each new book. Get on board now!
