...then I go back and review for those reading book 1, trying to make up their mind(s). The series is a military rock em, sock em set of adventures. I enjoyed the overall plot, but grew weary of the overly detailed action scenes. Weary, I say. Most of all, I became weary of the outlandish individual twists, from individuals in the plot who launched off on their own. Doesn't anyone follow orders in warfare? And on and on...as if no one followed through. I got to where I was waiting for the next disappointment caused by some conniving bad guy vs. Heroic good guy....you know. Finally, to many philosophical "filler conversations" throughout. Having said all this, I managed 10 books! Why? I haven't got a good answer.

This Could Be So Much Better

This is the third series of books I have encountered by this author. Mr Walker has a good imagination and tells a good story. I have found in general that his books do lack a certain elevated style in writing that would take things to the next level. By that I mean there are usually gaps in the story or character developement that the reader often wonders "how did this come to be?". Some backstory would be helpful in these instances. Additionally in many of these books is the severe lack of discipline amongst the crew. In this story there is an ostensible military organizarion with admirals, captains and such, but every crewmember is referred to by first name rather than the proper positon title, such as "helm", "tactical", "weapons", "nav", etc. Very unprofessional. The ship being flown is considered state of the art and advanced beyond all reason, and yet they have trouble vanquishing the most mundane foes. Naval (space) tactics are non-existant as ships apparently just dodge and shoot. The term "evade" was used but never elaborated. This book could be so much better with some judicious editing and backstory fill.

Lieutenant Noah and crew of the Morrigan had the task to fend off the alien ship that was trying to destroy all of the ether facilities in the Confederacy,while trying to stop one of the ether facilities being destroyed Oliver met up with his sister Rita which he hadn’t seen since she left the Confederacy and became a pirate.
Now she back in the fold and continuing the fight. I’m ready for the next adventure.

Somewhat boring read actually, disappointing author tries to write beyond his capabilities and it shows with long winded explanations and too wordy dialog. I liked the premise but just throwing in some action doesn't make a writing into a novel. As a former Senior Editor of publications I have seen too many wanna-be authors not taking the time to write well instead of just quickly. I can't recommend this book series.

I would have given it zero stars if I could, one is too many. The story is hundreds of years in the future and they call each dude. The captain refers to his crew as, you guys They are on a military vessel and all call each by their first names. I started skipping pages at 10% into the book, and gave up completely before 50%, so I probably missed some coo-el dude aliens chilling out after a hard day destroying stuff. Oh, and speaking of aliens they are spider men who behave like Taliban type men, they even refer to themselves as men. Some writers are very good story tellers, this one isn't.

Really enjoyable read. I had read the prequel (War Torn) prior to picking this up so was up to speed with the back story which I would advise anyone else to do as well before starting book 1.

Characters are engaging and the story interesting and it was nicely fast paced throughout. I really like the back story behind the three main characters which I feel will continue to add greatly to the overall plot. I'm intrigued to get started onto book 2 and will no doubt go through the whole series.
Definitely recommend this series for any sci-fi fans.

John Walker has quickly become a favourite author for me in this genre.

The book did not really keep my interest. I usually love these ‘fight the alien’ type book, but didn’t really care for this one. No real detail on alien culture, space battle scenes were a bit dull, and I just didn’t invest in the characters. I will however read the second book to see if it gets better, mainly because I downloaded the whole series!
