Another plot point I found unbelievable was Sam wanting to set up and be centrally involved in a support group for relatives of violent crime victims. In every book, Sam is so overworked and overwhelmed by her job, she rarely sees her family. It stretches the imagination for her to be Second Lady, dedicated homicide detective, wife, mother of 3, and have time to lead a support group. It’s really not necessary for her to be Superhumanwoman. That’s probably nitpicky, but it’s really not feasible the way the character is written.
Most of the time one can pick up one of Ms. Force's series in any order and figure out what's going on. She usually gives you enough information to know the backgrounds. She does that to a point in this book, however it really helps if you've read the entire series, and especially the previous installment to read this one.
In this book Metro PD finally closes the case on who Shot Deputy Chief Skip Holland. With his death the case is escalated to murder. To prevent a conflict of interest and to make sure there are no technicalities to get those responsible off, Sam is forced to do a lot of background work on this case. Newer members of her team, and Captain Malone are primary on this one. Sam understands that but struggles with not being in the thick of it. But don't worry she is able to point everyone in the correct direction, which I never saw coming any more than she did. The results are bound to rock Metro PD in future books.
Ms. Force has made it clear she is not done with the "Fatal" series, and that makes me very happy. I love this one almost as much as the J.D. Robb "in Death" series. I can't wait for the 15th installment which I believe will be out toward the end of this year.
Nick is away in Europe and Sam is serving a suspension for taking in two children during a previous investigation when the unimaginable happens, Sam’s beloved father Skip succumbs from his injuries from a shooting he sustained four years prior.
With a renewed sense of determination Sam and her team set out to solve her dad’s cold case. Who shot Skip Holland? As Skip’s case heats up and and new information presents itself another cold case gets reopened and could potentially be connected to Skip’s shooting. Sam must step away from the investigation and let her crew dig deep with the help of the FBI and Special Agent Hill. The twists and turns are numerous and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.
This is a series that should not be missed. Marie Force has a knack for story telling and keeps this reader coming back for more.

Fatal Reckoning is the latest release in Force's Fatal Series and it's a doozy. In fact, I don't think I'm stretching my review to say this is the best book so far in the series and that is saying a lot since the entire series is extraordinary to begin with. I won't bother with a synopsis of the plot, you can get that from other reviews or the book blurb about this book. What I will say is read this book. You won't be sorry. If this is the first book in the series you're considering....you may want to start at the very beginning with Fatal Affair and enjoy the bliss of working through a great series. ...Or you can read it as a stand-alone as all books in the series are. Either way, you will never be disappointed with a book written by Marie Force. Mostly you're just gonna be totally captivated.
I cried when I read that Skip had died in his sleep and also at the out pouring of love for him at his funeral service. The eulogy by Sam and Scotty's speech were outstanding and I continued to cry. But will Sam ever solve her father's shooting now that it has moved to homicide?
I also cried again when Sam was cross examined at Stahl trial when she had to recount how he had twice tried to kill her. The first time by trying to strangle her and the second time by brutally torturing her in the basement where previously a group of teenagers had been murdered.
These Fatal Series book have taught me the importance of family and that love can conquer hate and evil. I recommend that before reading Fatal Reckoning that you go back and read the whole series.
Written with heartfelt emotion and truly pulled at the heartstrings.
Remember the tissues as this one's really emotional.if you haven't read the previous books in this series,go read them 1st and then you will realise the emotional bond between skip & Sam and all the followers of this exceptional series of books.
Keep up the fantastic writing Marie & the chairman would be proud of you 💕💕💕
