I did enjoy the family moments in this book but there was no growth in Sam and Nick's relationship. They are in love and everything was just wonderful for them. I did enjoy the relationship between Shelby and Avery but I thought it jumped rapidly from him still being hung up on Sam to all of a sudden he knows he isn't in love with her.
Overall, I just didn't find anything new in this book and I find Sam's character a bit grating. I don't particularly like the way she treats the other cops that aren't on her team as if they are all idiots. It's no wonder she makes enemies in the police department. I can't help comparing her to Eve from the In Death series who manages to be tough, strong, a bit abrasive but still very likable whereas Sam isn't near as likable. I'll continue for a bit longer hoping for some character growth in both Sam and in her relationship with Nick.
When you get past the over used adjective, the story has many intriguing twists; Sam carefully has her team examine each and every piece of evidence. Broken security cameras that would have backed up Gonzo's alibi? Yes. Conveniently an address left in the victim's car that is Gonzo's and even the reporting phone call came from a pay phone near his house. What will provide the clue that clears his name?
The press is howling, but even the most neophyte of mystery readers knows that an experienced police officer would not make some of those mistakes. The story turns dark when Sam begins to investigate other police officers. Does the answer to this crime lead back to the police department and a person, who is jealous of Sam's success and her team's ability to close crimes.
As before this book keeps you turning the pages and hanging on for the ride. Hopefully Force will continue to add to this series, which is enjoyable and fun toe read.

Nick accepts the new role of Vice President of the United States and has to be protected by the Secret Service and have offices at the White House with unspecified duties. Once there he suspects that he was chosen to boost the ratings of the President.
The adoption of Scotty is on going but more complicated than it first seemed. His biological has been found. Sam and Nick are worried they might lose him.
When two people are strangled in a similar manner, it is not obvious who is responsible and Sam has no instinctive or gut feelings about the perpetrator. And when Sam calls on her own for a second time at a house of a previous homicide she is surprised, ambushed and tortured. But by whom? You will have to read book 8 to find out...
Would definitely recommend.
