This was my first read of this author and WOW couldn`t stop myself form buying the next 2 books, then joining the fb page so I could find out the moment the next one was released. This series is set on Earth where the supernaturals have stormed out of the shadows and the new Status Quo is that humans are for food, prey or pets but not to all.
Jace is a werewolf and part of the rebellion, he takes the fall for his lover and ends up in the hands of Elias Ivers an incredibly twisted and power hungry witch. Jace thinks they`ll be a way that he can escape because he won`t allow himself to be broken, Elias has other ideas and has the magic to take and control what he wants and he wants Jace. Gripping dark and decidedly twisted can`t get enough of this series.
This book is far more tender than the first but it fits Reese and Ashton to a T. Well written and an interesting twist on a world where paranormals are out in the open. Ashton a human thief who will do whatever he has to to survive and to help the only person left that he cares about. A chance too far when he breaks into Reese`s house and gets caught. However Reese maybe a werewolf but he is a broken man none the less.
Have to say I`m a bit in love with Khaz, he`s a vamp but he is unlike most. He sees what harm they`ve caused since the takeover and it does not sit well. He is forced to sell his self just to keep a roof over his head and when he`s offered the chance to catch up on back rent without having to be on his back he takes it. Oh what a can of worms that leads to. Noah is raised with hatred for those who took everything away from humanity and he fights with the rebellion to free humans. Khaz has to break Noah but when a man is raised with pain there`s only one route for Khaz to take, it leads to what neither of them ever expected.
This series just gets better but it is not for those who are easily offended, as there is no tip toeing through the tulips holding hands in the new Status Quo.
I loved the world that the author has created for this series. It was so nice getting to know it and know the place everyone had on it. Other than the world, I think the best part of it are the characters, the attitude of each of them are amazing. The plot started a little simple, but as the reader gets into the story its start to become a little more complex and intriguing.
I have a few thoughts on the characters:
Ash, amazing, so bitter and yet so fun, i loved his careless attitude, so defiant and caring, he had the best attitude of all of the characters
Reese, also with a nice bitter attitude, so lifeless at some point and so full possibilities of character development. I guess I haven’t see the best of him yet, I can’t wait know more of him.
Noah is not my favorite character, but it was a nice one, I liked how strong beliefs he had and how much he is willing to risk for it.
Kahz, he is one of my favorite characters, maybe because he is the one who has change the most, the struggles he had, especially in owned had me care so much more for him. And is the one I’m more intrigued about in the future.
Jace, I haven’t get to know him well, what I known of him has been nice, I can’t see what would happen to him in the future, and somehow that’s good, the more things remain a mystery, the better will be a new book.
Elias, this has been one of the best character I’ve read in a while. Every time my mind sets on him I have a big smile on my face, I just can’t get enough of him. From the first book I was in love with this mean character and I wanted him to get what he wanted. Now it’s a little more complex because there are other characters I care about and they might get hurt if he gets what he wants, so I don’t know what to feel anymore, but that’s good, I like a book that has the ability to create such emotions. Somehow I was a little disappointed by him on Owned, I was expecting a lot more of him, but it’s ok, I’ll keep around to see what comes next for him.
In general I think this is a very interesting series, with the most amazing characters and a dark and intriguing world, I would definitely recommend it to reader who like dark theme books, but beware the warnings in the book description because it contain elements that might not be suitable to all readers.
I Received copy of this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.
