This is a light-hearted, quick and entertaining read. Jade and Fang go adventuring through a dark and frightening world, but the focus of the story is more on their developing relationship rather than the dangers they face.
Jade is an endearing character: terribly innocent in some ways, and yet sadly experienced with others -- her life as a street kid has ingrained in her a desperate need to belong to someone, as a form of protection. Needless to say, her attitude unnerves Fang, whose alien culture has taught him to protect and nurture the innocent. It doesn't help that neither of them are ready to face the deeper connection budding between them.
As a side note, some readers may be bothered by the age gap between the two: Jade is 15, and Fang 26. However, rest assured that Fang is highly honourable and would refuse to let anything happen, and the story is kept fairly innocent.
Short and sweet, Fated Ends reads very much as a teaser into a fascinating fantasy world and the possibilities of a future relationship. My only complaint is that I would have liked to read more!
