Libby wakes up and finds that her husband has been killed, his body lying lifeless next to her in their bed. What she can't seem to understand is how she was able to sleep through a gunshot. After the initial shock, she contacts the police department to report the murder. Apparently, the lead detective does not find the scenario of Libby sleeping through a gunshot to be plausible either. As his lead suspect, the Detective questions Libby, and begins his investigation into the murder. Scared and defenseless, Libby's mother tells her that she needs to hire an attorney and then go talk to her father in prison. She doesn't want anything to do with her father, the man who killed several women while still coming home to his family every night. It gets to the point where Libby just doesn't remember anything from that night, other than having a drink before going to bed. Her belief in herself begins to fail as new theories of her motive keep showing up. As a last ditch effort to prove her innocence, she realizes that she is being followed as she looks for clues into who murdered her husband. Can Libby find out who the real killer is before her trial? Can she live with going to jail for something that she didn't do?
Morgan has a very powerful and motivating mystery novel with Like Father Like Daughter. This is an entertaining and suspenseful story, one with superb character development and originality. The story flows easily, making it a fast read. The mystery is very predictable, but the story actually has more of an in depth connection regarding the underlying family history. Readers will catch on to who the murderer is before the end of the story, but there is a plot twist that is just as entertaining, which will leave readers wanting to continue into the next book of the series. If you are a reader of mystery and suspense, you may enjoy this read. This is the first installment of the Flesh & Blood Trilogy; therefore, readers can jump right in.
A copy of this book was provided to Turning Another Page by Loving the Book, but this is no way affects our honest opinion of the book or the review that has been written. We provide a five-star rating for Like Father Like Daughter by Christina Morgan.
Libby Carter wakes up with a pounding headache to find her husband lying dead next to her. She cannot remember a thing about the previous evening. Though her marriage was not perfect she loved her husband. She would never kill him. Would she?
The local police are convinced that she did it and the evidence is starting to point her way. The detective handling the case is not even looking for another suspect. Once charges are filed against Libby and she makes bail, she decides to take matter into her own hands. No one else is looking for the killer so she must uses all she wits to figure out who else might have wanted him dead.
Everything Libby discovers just leads to another dead end and she starts to doubt herself. Maybe she is the killer? Yet, deep down she knows she is not like her father. A man, now spending life in prison, who admitted killing multiple women over a period of years. If she did not kill her husband who did and why is there someone following her?
Another great fast paced crime thriller. If you are a lover of thrillers, this is one to add to your to-be-read list. The character develop was excellent and the story is very realistic. As I stated earlier, the character of Libby is the best part of the book. She does some very stupid things just like what happens in real life. This made she character believable.
I received a free copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
When starting this book by Christina I didn’t know what to expect and it didn’t disappoint. This first book in the Flesh & Blood Trilogy was intriguing which kept me engaged in the book. I would classify this as a criminal drama along the lines of Law and Order a TV show I watch often.
The opening scene is Elizabeth, “Libby” Carter, waking up, disoriented and covered in her husband’s blood. As she is starts to focus she realizes Ryan, her husband, has been shot in the head and is dead. Dazed she call the police. The lead detective immediately points the finger at Libby and arrests her.
Libby is a paralegal working for a large law firm that specializes in criminal defense. When she was younger her father was accused of murdering 9 prostitutes. Due to taking a plea deal he is now serving 9 consecutive life sentences in Federal Prison.
The remainder of this fabulous book chronicles her journey through this ordeal. I have to say I found an admiration for Libby as she decides to use her paralegal background and find the answers that will acquit or prove her guilt. What happens? Excellent question you will just need to read and find out what secrets she uncovers.
If you are looking for a good criminal drama that will have your mind thinking two steps ahead this is the book for you. The plot thickens with every turn of the page and with the circumstantial evidence piling up will Libby spend the rest of her life in prison or end up on death row. Will Libby be like her father?
The ending of this book was a fitting primer for book 2. I am eagerly looking forward to reading all three books.
