“As a jeweler holds a gemstone in the light and turns it slowly, examining each priceless, shining facet, Scott LaPierre holds high this picture of heaven's sacrificial love, and he slowly, unhurriedly, examines its every detail. A Father Offers His Son is beautifully Biblical, incredibly insightful, and remarkably readable.”—Cary Green: Speaker, Missionary, Church Planter, and Senior Pastor of Cornerstone Bible Church
Have you ever wondered why God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son in Genesis 22?
The Angel stopped Abraham showing God did not intend for him to kill Isaac, but what did God desire? Prophecies in the Old Testament look forward to Jesus, but He is also revealed through types and shadows. Genesis 22 is one of the greatest examples. God wanted to test the patriarch and prophet, Abraham, but readers will discover the account also reveals:
In human terms what God would do with His Son two thousand years later
The many ways Abraham and Isaac are a picture of God and His Son
The tremendous love of God shown through Christ’s sacrifice
Genesis 22 is not primarily about Abraham and Isaac. God and Jesus are the true and greater Father and Son shining forth in the account. Abraham did not spare his son but was willing to deliver him up for God. Likewise, God “did not spare His Son, but delivered Him up for us all” (Romans 8:32).
Learn the remarkable parallels between God and Abraham, and Jesus and Isaac. With thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter, the book is perfect for personal use or group Bible studies.

"Genesis 22 is a tough passage for Christian skepticsand even some believers to accept. The way Scott LaPierre unfolds the messageof this passage in A Father Offers His Son: The True and Greater SacrificeRevealed Through Abraham and Isaac offers the reader assurance and trust in TheLord God. God's great love for us, demonstrated through Christ, is foreshadowedin the Genesis story of Abraham and Isaac. God asks Abraham to sacrifice hisonly son. Genesis 22 is a prophecy of the New Testament; God sending his onlybegotten Son, Christ, to be sacrificed on behalf of the sins of man. LaPierreapproaches the meaning of the Genesis 22 passage with biblical clarity andgodly wisdom.
It is clear that LaPierre knows the Bible and is in touch with God daily. Frompage one, the reader realizes that this author has spent countless hoursstudying God's Word. As a Christ follower myself, I appreciate the way LaPierreunfolds Genesis 22 with the larger scope of the Bible and God's love for us inmind. I could not agree with LaPierre more when he states that God wants us toappreciate his love. Ultimately, Jesus' love and sacrifice will be glorifiedfor all eternity. LaPierre provides the opportunity for us to appreciate God'slove by putting the reader into Abraham's sandals. I could almost picturemyself walking up the mountain and laying one of my own at the altar.
Although God is full of mercy and his love unending, God's wrath will beeternal for those who neglect the name and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. That iswhy it is so important for us to realize God's purpose behind the meaning ofGenesis 22. We must look at this passage as a parable of God's love andsacrifice. God intentionally planned to include the story of a father who wasasked to sacrifice his son in the Bible, as a means to help us relate to andrealize the greatness of what God did for us in sending his Son."

"Abraham's intended sacrifice of Isaac is a rare and poignant picture of the unfathomable cost to the Father Who sacrificed His Son for us.This book is a wonderful and touching treatment of that passage. As a jeweler holds a gemstone in the light and turns it slowly, examining each priceless, shining facet, Scott LaPierre holds high this picture of heaven's sacrificial love, and he slowly, unhurriedly, examines its every detail. A Father Offers His Son is beautifully Biblical, incredibly insightful, and remarkably readable."

"Pastor Scott LaPierre writes fromthe heart. He reflects on the parallels between Abraham offering Isaac and Godoffering Christ as a sacrifice. Scott will walk you through chapter 22 ofGenesis to show you the parallels., Without giving up too much information, this book will break down who Isaac and Jesus were, why they were bothsacrificed in the same place, and their places in both the Old and NewTestaments. You'll see why their stories overlap, and how Abraham and Isaacprefigure the final sacrifice for God's people. Each chapter ends withquestions and answers that will challenge you to grow closer to God anddiscover the true purpose in His relationship. This makes the book perfect fora group Bible study or personal use."

the Hebrew scriptures through types and antiTypes, as expressed in the letter to the Hebrews.
This little book (download on Kindle) is FULL of this type of understanding the important things in scripture.!
God bless you Scott !
It doesn't simply explain the story of Abraham and Isaac, but takes us on a journey through the passageway of Genesis 22 into the epic story of redemption. Section by section, verse by verse LaPierre shows rather than tells how nearly every detail of Abraham’s sacrifice points to and illuminates God’s sacrifice of his own Son to save mankind.
One of the best aspects of the book is the way LaPierre subtly equips us to be better Bible readers as he guides us through the story. He frequently offers clear explanations of Biblical concepts, like this example from chapter 3: "Psalm 16 is a Messianic Psalm, which means that even though it was written by David, it can be read as though Jesus is speaking." That is the most straightforward, helpful explanation of the term "Messianic Psalm" I've ever read.
But what really makes this book special is the way the Bible retains its authority throughout. The reader gets the sense that he is not "listening" to someone speak about God, but is being ushered into the Word of God to hear God Himself speak. LaPierre writes as a pastor, not a professor with a theory to promote. His concern is not to get his own point of view across, but to show us what the Bible really says and means. And as we read, it is persistently clear that what we are reading has direct and profound implications for our lives. This is why the book is a thrill to read. We come away more amazed at God, with greater trust in his Word, and deeper wonder at the story of redemption. If you have any desire to know God or understand the Bible better, then follow LaPierre to God's amazing story of redemption through Abraham and Isaac and this wonderful little book!

As we dive into this newest release, there were times when some of the text seemed above the norm. In other words, he is speaking to an audience that tends to be more aware of the contextual issues behind the scriptures he uses to tell his story from the point of view that he does.
While other books by him seem more practical this one deeper look into both him as an author and the story he is sharing. I always look forward to reading Scott's books and learning something about the meaning behind the message he presents to his readers.
One of my favorite aspects of this book is Scott’s use of imagery and symbolism. It’s not every day that someone can successfully include this in their work in such a way that really helps you grasp the depth of the story’s meaning and the message they are communicating.
I am sure that this book will speak to your heart as it has spoken to mine. The message he communicates, while not what I expected at first, it is still an interesting one to read. It will give you a good look at the foundation of scripture, and the story scripture teaches.
You may be surprised to learn a few new things upon completing this book, and I encourage you to keep an open mind when reading it, so that it will speak to you all the more.
In truth, studying this story becomes richly rewarding as the details reveal the heart of God. Scott LaPierre delves into those details and brings out the vivid picture Abraham and Isaac are acting out. He looks into some of the Hebrew words with their depths of richness, and also the New Testament Greek in related passages without losing focus or letting his topic get dry or bogged down.
It would be easy to expand on the details and the myriad "rabbit trails" one could develop, but the author stay a on track, and avoids being didactic or "preachy." While doing that, he also does manage to get to the meatier parts of the narrative.
The short scene from the lifes of two of history's greatest men will deepen you spiritual insight and bring you closer to God. There are thought provoking questions at the end of each chapter that help deepen understanding, although the space provided for answers occasionally seems insufficient.
I will highly recommend this book and others by Scott LaPierre.
Would recommend this book.
I love how he added questions at the end of each chapter. This book would be good for a devotional time with your family, or a bible study group. I enjoyed it so much, I read it again a month later! More things came to light the second time.
I’ve read Scott’s two other books, Marriage God's Way and Enduring Trials God's Way and have enjoyed them all. Marriage God’s Way, also has a workbook that goes with it. I recommend all 3 books!

Abraham offering his only son in sacrifice to God, believing God will provide the lamb in his stead.
Abraham is an image of God offering his son Jesus as the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world: the just dying for the unjust. It shows God’s incomprehensible love for humanity and his justice.
Sobering too!
The necessity of faith in God’s gift: Jesus!
