Most Christians can tell you the value of the incarnation, atonement, or resurrection of Christ. However, on the other hand most Christians would be hard pressed to offer much insight to the practical values related to Christ's ascension.

In this essay Keller explains how Jesus in His ascension provides great value to His subjects as the reigning Prophet, Priest, and King. In between His resurrection and His return to earth - Christ is currently alive and well and currently reigning in the present.

Keller discusses what the ascension means for us theologically and practically.

Theologically Christ's ascension means that Jesus' ascension is not simply Jesus' return from earth to Heaven, but it is a "new enthronement for Jesus, bringing a new relationship with us and with the whole world." Jesus as King is currently actively engaged in His mediatorial work throughout the earth. Jesus is directing a "cosmic transition plan--one that will bring about the new heavens and a new earth."

Practically, Christ's ascension means three things: (1) Jesus is available to us now twenty four hours a day, seven days a week for intimate communication and loving fellowship. Keller writes: "Because Christ is ascended we can know his presence, actually speaking to us, actually teaching us, actually pouring out his love out into our hearts--through the Holy Spirit"; (2) Jesus is the Ultimate Sovereign Authority over the universe. Keller explains, "Jesus controls all things for the church, and therefore you can face the world with peace in your heart...

I have downloaded all of this series to date and it continues to provide me with knowledge and wisdom as to the Godliness of Jesus. Having seen Dr Keller preach on several occasions, it is rewarding to read what is laid out like one of his live sermons. His skill at teaching the worthiness of Jesus is inspired.

Once again, Tim Keller has mastered the art of presenting profound spiritual principles and insights in a compact and totally understandable format. One does not have to labor over pages of filler; one simply needs to read the straightforward prose to be both enlightened and blessed.

Tim Keller explains how one of the least talked about aspects of Jesus' ministry, the Ascension, is actually one of the biggest reasons we have hope. My only regret about buying this book is not buying it sooner.

I am a regular student of Dr. Keller. Which means I regularly submit to his teaching. Why? Because God has opened my eyes to the gospel of grace through Dr. Keller's teaching which is saturated and centered in this gospel even when discussing our Lord's ascension. Does it matter if my understanding and application of the gospel is relevant to life? Well, all I know is that it has changed my life forever! Every single aspect of my life is a gospel issue which I didn't see or apply until about four years ago and I have been a Christian much longer than that!
I used to ask myself what was the big deal about being "gospel-centered" and now I know. This is why I read what Keller and many others write through the lens of the gospel- there is a huge difference in how I interpret the bible and how I live my life when looking through the gospel lens. May our Lord and Savior use teachers like Mr. Keller to help us see and taste just how good He is!

Every believer needs to understand the power and intimacy available through our ascended Savior. One of my favorite sayings is from John Maxwell who said, "There is no power in the present when there is no hope in the future". Understanding what it means to have an ascended Savior gives us unparalleled hope for the present and for the future.

A great and quick reminder of what God has done to ensure salvation and comfort, care for, and nourish believers to endure in this life. Keller does a great job unpacking a topic not often taught on or explained in detail.
