I wondered about the title when I first saw it and questioned the author's intention. Half way through the first read it all made sense. This collection of poetry is a celebration of things like struggle, loss, abandonment, and guilt. By celebration, I mean that I found no self pity in these pages. There was only acknowledgement, acceptance, and thankfulness.
My favorite line in the book comes from the poem 'Wandering Words' - Pain without purpose makes for stillborn stories. Angela's words shine with purpose and these stories are very much alive. "In Favor of Pain" may deal with dark subjects but after reading it I'm left with a feeling of hopefulness, which is what I think the author intended all along.
