I did not like Layla at all ... way too assertive, knows what is right and doesn’t give the guy a chance to say ANYthing! She makes up her mind and cuts the guy down! On the other side, he needs to grow a pair instead of being a silent wimp. I’m sure it changed after I stopped reading, but with both jumping to conclusions without listening or speaking up, I’d had enough. Sorry, but many other books I’d rather spend my time on.
Also - need a new editor! Missing words and the past tense for buying something is “bought”, NOT “brought” (ran across this at least 2x in 10 minutes - aaargh!)
UPDATE: I read a bit more (got 1/3 way) after posting my review above, I just can’t do any more ... Sorry, but Layla’s just a b*tch and Tyson’s family taking her side and blaming him for not making it work is just frustrating as heck!
Layla and Tyson both spent most of the book not even speaking because neither bothered to call the other back after their absolutely awesome weekend in bed, where they by the way made a baby! The family and background setting of the book gave it such potential to have the most awesome story for Layla and Tyson but it was wasted on them basically not speaking for the first several months of her pregnancy. I just think the author should have, given the background setting already in place, could’ve come up with an awesome story instead of making us almost want to strangle both of these characters! It is a sweet book, and I love the ending even though it was a bit of a struggle getting there.
Denver Attorney Layla Cox met Tyson Watson in Marietta Montana while attending a friend's wedding, and they are VERY compatible... yet totally different. They had a blissful weekend, then went back to their separate lives. However, soon after, Layla realized she's pregnant... apparently, some of Ty's condoms were a bit too old. Layla dumped her career and bought a small practice in Marietta to make sure Ty can be a part of the child's life, but Layla has no expectations on Ty, esp. when she learned he had put out an ad for a mail-order bride. Ty had a wonderful weekend with the beautiful attorney, then she left without a word, and stayed radio silent for weeks... Until she showed up in the middle of his busy rebuilding... and announced she's pregnant, but she doesn't want anything from him. Ty's surprise and shock lead him to reply in anger, which caused Layla to recoil, but both are too headstrong and control-freak to apologize for their own behavior... It may take a bit of family intervention to make the two see reason...
As I said, both are too proud to say what's on their minds, yet both obviously love each other, and their mindset actually made sense. The family intervention made it almost rom-com, but with a serious intent. Allin all, while the plot is a bit of a trope, it's a fun read nonetheless.
