But once the narrative moves into the background of the family that was killed, it is a totally different book. A troubled teen mother has her children taken from her, but turns her life around. She and the local mail carrier fall in love, and create an incredible loving home for his, hers, and their children. They take in foster children. They become the "poster children" for the foster care system. The bonds of love and caring are so strong that in the final chapter it is revealed that one of the children who survived the massacre purchased the house where it happened. In spite of the horrors she experienced, that house was filled with so many loving memories that she had to live there. That is a testament to Kim and Danny's incredible parenting.
