About the Author

Craig Fear is a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP) who specializes in helping others with chronic digestive issues. He struggled with his own digestive problems for many years, which inspired him to become an NTP and start his practice, Pioneer Valley Nutritional Therapy, in Northampton, Massachusetts, in 2009.

Craig’s dietary philosophy is firmly rooted in traditional foods. He believes in real food from small-scale sustainable farms and the pioneering research of Dr. Weston Price as a starting point for what to eat and why.

He also understands dietary changes can be overwhelming for many and has learned to skillfully guide others through the many obstacles modern-day life presents.

He started his blog, Fearless Eating, in 2011 (www.FearlessEating.net ), wrote his first book, The 30 Day Heartburn Solution, in 2013 (and plans to write many more), and created an online digestive e-course, Fearless Digestion (www.FearlessDigestion.com ), in 2014.

Craig’s other interests include hiking, playing his guitar, travel, and rooting for his beloved New York Giants. He also loves coffee and claims to be only mildly addicted to it.

Please join Craig over at his blog, Fearless Eating, at www.FearlessEating.net.

This is a fantastic book not only for it's recipes, several of which I cannot wait to try, but also for it's entertaining writing style. I have been making my own bone broths for years, so I read this book thinking I might get some new ideas for how to use the broth, but not learn much else, as it seemed to be aimed at hesitant newbies to the process. What I found instead was that I read the whole thing in one sitting as it was as engaging as a novel. The stories are wonderful, the instructions very clear, and there was in fact much to be learned from this book even for a veteran bone broth and stock maker. This is more than just a cookbook, it is a combination of lessons, stories, advice and recipes, it is like attending a really good seminar from a teacher who knows the subject well and has a passion for imparting that knowledge.

Fearless Broths and Soups is a book that goes beyond just simmering bones after last night’s chicken dinner. Sure, this book has amazing traditional chicken, beef, and fish stock recipes, but it also delves into more exciting territory like how to USE the broth in recipes like Pho, Creamy Potato and Leak Soup, and French Onion Soup (to name only a few). All of the recipes are jam-packed with flavor and are very customizable to fit any diet protocol. I love how easy it is to follow the recipes and how you learn about the health benefits of these soups along the way. Better skin, hair, and digestion anyone? You get it all in this amazing book. Highly recommended to anyone looking to nourish not only their body but also their soul!

In this book you will find so much information on the history of bone broth and why it's important to make and consume it properly prepared instead of modern imitation broths & soups. It is a well written easy read that includes many different ways to prepare bone broth and bone broth soups for all meals, including breakfast. It is important to note that there are no photos for the recipes.

I am constantly sharing Craig's blog posts about bone broth and soup making to my friends and readers. His style of cooking and teaching is easy and accessible for just about everyone. He single-handedly combats the prevalence of real food recipes that require a lot of time and/or money and/or chef-like kitchen skill. And most importantly, his recipes are delicious! I personally experienced his Italian meatball soup--it's incredible and has become part of my repertoire for my family. In this book, Craig brings together his methodology and his best recipes. "Simple Recipes for Real People on Real Budgets" is not a marketing ploy, it is the truth!

This covers a lot more than basic broth, although he does teach 'how-to' in detail. It's a fun read, will give everyone ideas & encouragement. My input: Use as clean bones as you can : no antibiotics or GMO grains/alfalfa fed to animals, best of all would be grass-fed or wild (hunters, save your bones, they are healthy!) Free-range chickens, the best you can find. Backyard chickens that are fed non-GMO grain/scratch, freely forage for insects, fed organic or eat wild greens are top of the line! The insects are full of Omega 3's, which we are starving for. We NEED healthy fats to live well, thrive. The Big Lie that is destroying us Americans is that FAT IS BAD. The Truth is that the WRONG KINDS OF FATS are killing us, and too many grains.
I also recommend the book (Amazon) 'The Vegetarian Myth'... it's a dense read with very good info. http://www.amazon.com/Vegetarian-Myth-Food-Justice-Sustainability/dp/1604860804/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1445969576&sr=1-1&keywords=the+vegetarian+myth

If you are a researching type, the above book speaks of Dr. Weston Price, from the early part of the 20th Century. His work was and is a landmark in the evidence of our modern diet, even BEFORE sodas, fast foods became the food of choice. I recommend paying attention:

I've always assumed that homemade bone broths would be too complicated, expensive, and time-consuming. Boy, was I WRONG! Fearless Broths and Soups makes it so simple and accessible to enhance the flavor and nutrition of my meals. I am so excited about integrating homemade bone broths to my culinary and wellness repertoires! I highly recommend this informative, creative, and well-written book to anyone who is new to the art of bone broths, as well as to those who are "seasoned" bone broth brewers.
