Jax and Riley's story is a page-turner and I read it twice.
Fearless commences where Reckless left us on a cliff-hanger with Jax and Riley's hasten retrieval from the violent scene with The Reapers and Darrel, Jax's horrid father. Jax had a wretched childhood at the hands of is ruthless father. Jax has severe personal and inner turmoil, which he needs to face and overcome in order to move on in life. Riley attempts to be strong and supportive for Jax. His demons seem to be more than he is able to handle. Their faith and love in each other will be tested as their relationship begins a slow spiral descent. They gave each other mind, body and soul. Exposed one another and shared the most darkest elements. We cannot become who we need to be if we continue to remain the same.
She was not surrendering their relationship and was determined to fight for both of them. They had a bond like no other. Jax's past finally seizes him and he eventually crumples.
Well-written novel. Characters never faltered from the story line. Never loses momentum. Author is creative and imaginative composing storylines, which entices the reader. It seems as if she has written a real life event or scenario. This novel is not a standalone. Reckless is the beginning of Jax and Riley's story.
5*****stars.. Well-deserved and fabulous read. ARC provided by Author Priscilla West
Amazon purchase on release date.
I tried to like this one and actually did enjoy the first one in Jax and Riley's story. However, between my mediocre reaction to the Surrender series and now this I don't think I will be reading any more from Priscilla West unless someone can show me that she has truly grown as a writer and a storyteller.
I do wish there had been a bit more depth to Jax. Every time I thought we were going to get to something deeper with him, we didn’t. I felt like I kept coming right to the brink with his psyche, and then….it just went away. I would have loved to be more involved in what was going on in the therapy he was getting because it didn’t seem like he had that great of a therapist. I would have liked seen that flushed out a bit more. Instead of making him more mysterious or even loveable, it kept a barrier between the reader and him. Riley was fantastic. A little crazy, which I love. I am a firm believer that you can balance a professional life with an adventurous one.
I bought it. I loved it. I want more.
This book lets off exactly where the last one ended, with Jax and Riley running for their lives. I expected to see how they deal with what happened, and then move on from it, but unfortunately, Jax couldn't. So for over 100 pages, we have to read about Jax being either a reckless daredevil or a monosyllabic shell of a human.
I'd go into more, but then I'd give away the entire book.
While the writing was good, I felt that Ms. West wasted a huge opportunity to bring her characters more into the future and fight life's battles together, but she didn't.
