- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2024My initial thought was that there was no fancy graphics on the front of the book / manual. Will it be something that is useful to me or will it be partial effort by someone trying to sell something? Prior to getting this book, I would research an issue online and try to sort through the answers posted by others to solve an issue with my 221. This is without a doubt the best resource for solving a minor issue to taking apart and painting your machine and everything in between. The author spent his time filling this book with knowledge and skipped the fancy cover. You don't need any other books when you have this one!!! Great job!!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2024Before using my recently purchased featherweight, I've read the book all of the way through. It is very user-friendly and written with a sense of humor. I wanted to read it in advance so I would have some idea of how to operate and maintain the machine as well as common issues that arise in using the machine. The drawings and diagrams are very helpful. If you are a new or experienced user of a featherweight, I highly recommend this book!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2014This book is packed with valuable information to keep my Featherweight in top running order and it is exactly what I have been looking for. It is easy to follow - the diagrams are simple and to the point. I read through this book today and I was not disappointed. My first thought was $39 was a lot for a soft cover book about just a simple sewing machine. But don't be fooled - this book is worth the price and as the author says, you will see a quick return on the money you save not bringing ti to someone else to repair. And if you're like me, I love my Featherweight so much, that I don't like leaving it with someone for any amount of time.
Mr. McCallum added funny little stories along the way about his own Featherweights and the book was an enjoyable read, if you already have a Singer Featherweight - or if you are considering get one. He even autographed the copy =)
Update: I have two Featherweights and decided to purchase a second copy for each machine to have “their own copy”. Preserving and caring for these beautiful machines is important. And David McCallum is a vital part of the machine package.
Just don’t choose USPS for shippping. This second book bounced around Seattle for six days straight. Each day I received a new update that the book was on its way to Seattle.

The 221, 1951 Centennial that you see here was the very first machine I broke down to have painted.
It was in very rough shape, when I bought it.
I found a mentor to share his knowledge with me about working on these machines.
Working with him on my machine hands on has taught me a lot.
This book is an excellent reference for anyone that has an interest in learning all aspects.
Even though he wrote it a long time ago, these machines are much older and nothing really changes on them, other than your maintenance needed on them.
Yes you will want to change to the LED bulb, but I still keep the original for the age of it.
Collecting the tools just for your machine is a must as he writes in the book.
This is one of those TOOLS, it’s a must have, to be passed down to whomever inherits your machine.
5.0 out of 5 stars If your new to Feather Weight’s it’s a necessityI don’t normally write reviews 😊

- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2024It’s a little pricey but very good with pictures and text. Goes into detail about most of the problems that plague the Featherweight. I would buy it again.
