3.0 out of 5 starsPerforms as advertised, but lots of room to improve at this price point

The feeder works as advertised, and it's awesome getting text notifications to inform you that your pet has been fed. It will feed your pet(s) on demand, or on a predefined schedule. You can record your voice calling over your pet(s) to the bowl. And you can watch them eat it leveraging the built in webcam. The selling point for me was that it retains the schedule if it disconnects from the wireless network. If you're going to trust this device to feed your pet (I use it when I'm away from home over night), it needs to work 100% of the time. These features are great, and make this a unique and functional device in the limited "smart pet feeder" market.
But at this price point, I expect a premium product, and that's not what this is. First and foremost, there is no app. Any modern smart device needs an intuitive, easy to use app available on both iOS and Android. The website needs some major polish to give it a cleaner, streamlined look. And you shouldn't need to use it anyway, because if there was an app available, you would use that.
I had issues getting this device to connect to my wireless network. After some troubleshooting, it turned out I had to change the channel of my wireless network to channel 11. I was previous using channel 6, which wasn't an issue for the other 10+ devices on my network. Not sure what network card is in here, and I shouldn't have to care. I shouldn't have to change settings on my wireless router to get a wireless device to connect (I'm using an Apple AirPort Extreme) when all of my other devices worked just fine. It needs to just work.
And the quality of the webcam is just bad. Do I need to watch my pet eat in high definition? No. But when I am paying $250 for a smart feeder that has a webcam, this thing needs a 720p camera. And the audio quality when you play back your voice to call your pets over is muffled. Does this stop the device from working? Absolutely not. Again, this all boils down to the price point. If you want a cell phone that can make calls and send text messages, the $200 flip phone, and the $800 iPhone can both do that. But you're paying for the other premium features and a better user experience with the iPhone.
This was the only smart pet feeder I came across that retains its schedule locally on the device if it gets disconnected from the network, and has trays to feed wet food and treats. And if you're buying this, you love you pet, and value these capabilities. Bottom line: this device works as advertised, but should be priced at $150 - $200, or a better webcam, speaker, and app need to be included to make this a premium product to justify the price.
