This is a stand alone set in Lucky Falls where Best Laid Plans took place. So it brings back Arden and Gabe's police woman friend, Perri Keating. She is smart, loyal, and dedicated to her job. A routine traffic stop brings her eye to eye with the sexy stranger, Derek McBride. He is new to town and she cannot help but respond to his scruff, tats, muscles, and how he looks sitting on top of his bike. And he is just as taken with the fiery redhead. It's a case of insta-lust that works both ways.
They did not expect to see each other again until Derek finds a way to run into her. And that leads to a whole other set of circumstances and the plot thickens even more. Soon they are spending more time together. Derek is not just a bad boy. He is caring, community minded, and completely irresistible. Their banter is flirty, dirty, and fun. They agree sharing kisses is okay, but have other rules in place. Both are adamant that they are not looking for a relationship. It's a game of temptation, frustration, and push and pull. But even the law abiding cop is going to have a hard time keeping her hands to herself with the sexual tension blazing between them.
So make new rules, right? What could possibly go wrong?
These two are so afraid to really want or need each other and are terrified that the other does not want more. Their chemistry is right on target, but their communication needs some work. They both have struggles with work that cause more pressure. And it is hard to figure out if feeling good for awhile is enough or if they are brave enough to take a chance and ask for more.
I absolutely adored Derek. He looks and talks like a bad boy, but also has a big, loving heart. And Perri is feisty, sarcastic, and tough, but also deep down wants to be swept off her feet, although she is scared to admit it. They are both so tempted, and yet so terrified. But their passion is off the charts and they are so good together. I just loved these two!
This is sweet, sexy, funny, and emotional. I was glad to be back in Lucky Falls with this crew. I liked getting more with Arden and Gabe, Vanessa, and her brother, Shaw. They have a fun friend group that takes care of each other. But there are also some other dynamics brewing. I am looking forward to getting more with Shaw.

WHEW. Everyone loves a bad boy…but a bad boy with a heart of gold? Sign me up! Local cop Perri isn’t one to flirt on the job. But all the flirting stays in her head when she’s on the job; she’ll just have to daydream about Tall, Dark, and Handsome. That is until his continues to show up everywhere she is (in a completely non-stalkery way). Made to sin, Derek is the ultimate temptation and the answer to her kissing contest debacle her boss has put her in. Yes, her boss wants her to compete in the local kissing contest to show the departments community spirit. Thank gods she’s doesn’t have to lock lips with some stranger….well one that ISN’T drop dead gorgeous. The whole plan goes awry however when her cocky brother rents out her spare room to Derek. No with a forced proximity that could lead them down one passionate path…these two have to fight the feeling…HARD.Derek wasn’t looking for anything particular when he came to town. Wanting to focus on supporting his sister and her family while taking a quieter career path as an EMT was all he was reaching for. Who knew that with the first day of arriving to town he’d be struck by the most beautiful cop he’d ever seen. A sassy redhead who takes none of his flirting when in uniform but all of it when she’s off-duty is his perfect brand of temptation. Teasing her at every chance he gets is going to get even trickier when it turns out she’s his new landlord. Loving with the ultimate lust generator is not something he planned on but Derek is fully ready to dive on in with Perri.They may have tried to fight temptation but when these two finally combust? Look out! Hot and naughty, their fire sparks off the pages with so much passion, you’ll need a glass of wine after each chapter. I love that their back and forth wit and teasing of one another just made it that much worse fro them both. And finally admitting they want to be together for real is one hell of a tease to readers. This is absolutely one of Blakely’s hotter books and steers a bit away from the rom-com aspect to be a more traditional contemporary romance. There’s still sass and still humor…just a lot more heat!
