Book Description

February 1, 2000
These selections from Rumi's Mathnawi – a classic of Sufi spiritual literature – express the "lion's roar" of courage, discipline, clarity, and integrity. The lion represents the fierce intensity that recognizes no authority except the highest truth. At the same time, Rumi's lion is full of heart and devotion. Through these poems the reader will explore the qualities that are vital to the spiritual aspirant who seeks to overcome the imprisonment of ego.

For spiritual growth - this book is it! I have maked up the margins, and typed excerpts for my personal journal. In one word = EXCELLENT!!! So many principles I have read and I am witnessing being used today by top, notable politicians - and they don't even know it...

Rumi is the complete mystic, with deeply rooted common sense. It's about spiritual intoxication, the "Whirling Dervishes" come from the dance of the early Sufis lost in this state. This is other Islam, beyond events and possessions into the ecstatic liberation of mind and soul, The short book has many profound anecdotes in warm simplicity. Coleman Barks found a wondrous niche.

A magnificent translation of the Rumi. I can nt believe it that the English translation sounds even better to me than the native Farsi. I am na Iranian and love the translation a lot better than the origianl in Persian.
