Had a FEIT 23W CFL floodlamp go out over the weekend, so instead of buying the same one, i decided to try the LED version. This is of very high quality, heavy due to it needing aluminum cooling fins. Brightness is about the same as the CFL... everything is good about this bulb... except.... the price.

At $50, its basically $40 premium over a its CFL counterpart, and at $0.20/kwh, the 7 watt electricity savings comes out to a break even point of more than 28000 hours, or the entire advertised life of the bulb. My light, at 12 hrs utilization a day, will take more than 6 years to return... and I'm sure that, before that time is up, there will be much better and cheaper alternates on the market.

My recommendation to all, is that if you don't get a tax rebate/credit from the govt for going green, its not worth the $50.... still a very well made product, but no economical sense (yet)

I just purchased 2 of these bulbs from Radio City. I bought these 2 for a second motion light that I just installed. The first 2 I bought from Lowe's about a year ago, but they don't carry them anymore. I tried a few different bulbs from Lowe's, but the color was to different and looked kind of lame on my back patio area. My only issue is with Radio City. They sent me the wrong bulb. They sent me the Feit 18-watt (like 820 lumen) bulbs instead of the 16-watt (725 ish lumen bulb). I'm pretty picky but I'm sure that I'm the only one that will ever notice the difference. The bulbs took over a week to come via FedEx so I don't want to deal with the hassle of sending them back and waiting for replacements. Overall though, these Feit led bulb's are a great bulb. They have a traditional incandescent bulb color and brightness, without that weird blue tint. I would definitely buy them again, just not from Radio City.

Bought six of these Sept 2010 - I figure that they have run perhaps 15-20000 hours. Two failures.

They were all housed in appropriate fixtures with reasonable cooling. In fact, the latest failure occurred in a fixture that I had modified to give extra cooling (cut down the reflector to expose the heat sink).

I see this as the real Achille's heel of LED bulbs. Quite a bit more expensive than filament bulbs, cheaper to run but not lasting long enough to really justify the investment. I had hoped that Feit, being a well thought of manufacturer, would indeed have solved the longevity issue.

I got a couple of these at a local brick and mortar for my great room, with can lights about 14 or so feet up. They were much brighter than the other CFL flood lights I had in the recessed cans, but they gave off less overall light, since it was all concentrated below. In the space of that 14 feet to the floor, I had about a 4 to 5 foot illuminated area that was well lit. Anything else outside of that area had little light compared to the normal CFL floods I had tried to replace. The rest of the room was entirely too dark, even darker than with the lesser CFL's.

So if you're looking for something that does a great job of illuminating a smaller area, like a spotlight for artwork or something on the wall, or just below where this points for reading at night, this is a good choice. But for overall illumination of a room, it's definitely a bad option.

I purchased this bulb at Lowe's about three weeks ago and have now had the chance to watch this lamp in action.

The verdict? This is a terrific product, one of the better next generation LED lamps. The light it produces is clear, clean and powerful, almost indistinguishable from incandescent or halogen bulbs. For once a manufacturer actually clearly tells you the lumens (how much light the bulb produces) and color temperature of the product, something which has been a headache with LED lamps up to now (e.g. "Lights of America" and similar cheapo LED manufacturers). Yes, this FEIT high performance LED lamp is about sixty bucks but the biggest barrier with large scale consumer LED lamp conversion up to now has mostly been product quality, not price. This is one of the first truly higher quality LED PAR 38's to hit the market

Home Depot is now selling a competing Philips LED bulb for about the same price. The prices of these higher quality LED lamps is bound to come down further, which bodes well for the future.
