Huge video quality boost, easy to learn, works great even in cold/snow while skiing. There's a lot of info out there, so here's what I'll add:the batteries in the feiyu lasted a full day of skiing, no problem. The gopro4black couldn't do even 10 minutes when it was really cold (and it's a brand new camera)Because you can't use the case the go pro can't stay warm with it's own heat easily, but with the battery pack/monopod/feiyu/gopro combination you see in the photo you can film every run, then charge on the lift. If you wanted to continuously charge while using the feiyu you would want a smaller more flexible wire than I had
Works great! Does exactly what all the YouTube videos and previous reviewers have said. I'm new to the gimbal world but I have used a manual stabilizer before. This blows it away. No need to calibrate weights and that nonsense. Just turn it on, wait about 5 seconds, and you're off to the races.
Would be nice if you could buy different mounts for different recording devices. I'm sure the motors can only support a certain weight. It's good to know that the new GoPro 4s have not changed in size so they should work just fine.
Biggest downside is this thing costs more than my GoPro itself. But when you compare video taken with and without this product, it's worth it.
I spent month's trying do decide if I should get this stabilizer, let's face it, it's pricey. Im so glad I finally did. I noticed most of the negative reviews were because of the customer receiving a dud, rather than not satisfied with the functionality of the actual gimbal.
Let me start off by saying it's not perfect, but it'll make your videos a ton better without the shaky footage. There's definitely a technique in using this gimbal as far as walking with it and filming, and I'm sure as you get this down your videos will become even smoother.
I used it at an auto show recently, you can go to my You Tube Ch. (Ely C) for sample vids, here's one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs-LNBQBJKg
As far as battery life, it's decent. I switched batteries on my go pro 3 different times and the Feiyu tech was still running. Filmed about 6 hours off and on on that day. Only complaint as some others have noted here is the wiring that's exposed, it seems like it's delicate so you'll definitely want to be aware of that. One other thing, I noticed as I would pan horizontally, the gimbal would have just a slight jerky movement at times. But I'm guessing a firmware update should fix that issue. I used it straight out of box assuming it was delivered with latest update so that's not manufacturer's or sellers fault.
Overall I highly recommend this gimbal if you want your go pro footage and videos to look a lot smoother and with a professional look.
There has already been much said about this gimbal. Before buying it, I did a good deal of research and there are a few important points I want to make that I wish I knew in advance.
1) The biggest point deals with the batteries. A lot of people said that it doesn't make since that it comes with 4 batteries, a charger that charges 2 batteries at the same time, but uses 3. However, when mine arrived I only received 2 batteries and a charger that can charge 3. The batteries it comes with are 3.7v 650mAh cr123a 16340. I live in Denver and I couldn't find a place that sells these batteries. Regardless if you have 2 or 4 batteries I advise you get some replacement ones as this thing lasted less than 1hr on fully charged batteries.
==UPDATE======= The batteries are terrible and unreliable. Don't even bother with the blue replacements, yes, some might be good but it has a 50/50 fail rate. Plus, the charge time is a 3 to 1 charge to use. If you use it for 1 hour, it will take 3 hrs to charge. For virtually this reason alone I have dropped it down to 3 stars, however, most the 3-axis gimbals use the same batteries. I found a work around using external 3S hobby batteries. It takes a bit of soldering and I needed to drill a hold in the battery housing. Doing this gets longer battery life, shorter charge times, and the 3S batteries are available locally. If you are using the G3 commercial use this mode is well worth the time and effort. ================
The battery charger is also cheap, if you can find a bundle that comes with both batteries and a better charger I would go for it.
You are able to put the camera in upside down which offers some advantages and disadvantages. By putting it upside down it makes it nearly impossible to fall out by accident since the lens housing acts as a stop. It also gives you easy access to the wifi button on the side. This also puts the sensor directly in front of the roll motor which may or may not be of benefit. The downside is that it makes it slightly off balance but not to a point that it causes problems stabilizing. It also takes away easy access to the card port.
It takes a bit more practices to get really smooth shots than I was expecting. It goes 80-90% of the way out of the box but getting it to 100% takes a bit of practice.
When using it, try and hold it as straight as possible. I thought I could hold it at a slight angle which is more comfortable but if you do that it makes the motor work more and if the motor is working more then you are losing battery power faster.
If you have a Mac, you can not update the firmware. I thought I could out smart it but I just couldn't. However, out of the box mine had the current firmware and they haven't updated it in a while (probably because they want people to buy the G4).
Anyway, other than that it is pretty much what you would expect. I am giving it 3 stars because of the battery problems and lack of Apple support.
The tiny screws that connect the arm to gimbal motor came loose when I was working in the feild filming a documentary. I tightened them as best as I could using my leatherman but the next time I used the gimbal they came loos again. I suspect they are striped. It's too late to return it to I am going to try to fix it by filing a flat space and then holding it together with a hose clamp.
Too bad it failed in this way. Other then this problem the gimbal worked remarkably well -- given it's obvious limitations (no way to monitor what you are shooting, go pro... Either the screws are just too small or they where not sufficiently tightened at the factory.
