Book Description

January 1, 2003
The Feldenkrais Method is a presentation of the system of Functional Integration devised by the Israeli scientist Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais. This system is a way of handling the body by communicating specific sensations to the central nervous system in order to improve the functions of the motor-system. Functional Integration is unique in that it evokes changes in the human brain at a level heretofore thought unachievable by any known educational technique.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful book on how the Feldenkrais method works April 26, 2008
Format:Paperback
The Feldenkrais method is an amazing method of retraining the body. It can cure chronic muscular or joint pain, repetitive stress injuries (this was why I was led to it), or just cause you to have a more supple, stronger body ---all with no exercise or painful stretches.

This book is not an introduction to that method---the book by Moshe Feldenkrais called "Awareness through Movement" is the standard introduction. Or do a google search for "Feldenkrais FAQ". In fact, a book will rarely do justice to the method and the best introduction would be to take lessons from a good teacher.

But if you get intrigued about the method and begin to wonder about its technical details, this book is perhaps the most accessible account.
Rywerant was one of Feldenkrais's earliest students and is today in his 80s.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Important Book For Feldenkrais Practitioners November 20, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book can be a bit dry..or not, depending on what you enjoy reading. However, it is one of the best, perhaps the only, Feldenkras book that can give you a detailed map on how to go about doing Functional Integration and acquiring the skills to do so. I consider this book a must read for a all Feldenkrais practitioners regardless of skill level.

It can not only help new practitioners acquire the work, it can help more experienced practitioners learn how to write about and think about the process of teaching and learning Functional Integration and Feldenkrais in general. There is a huge need for this book and for others to write similar books about Functional Integration.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent September 1, 2008
Format:Paperback
Excellent but advanced and highly technical. I would not recommend it for recently graduated practicians.

This book will have a limited audience. What it is trying to teach is not easy to learn with a hands-on instructor. And Yochanan is not always as clear as he should be when describing manipulations. There is a dearth of illustrations. But if you are willing to put in the effort, and you use youtube as a resource, it can help you learn a lot about helping others reach their potential, and help yourself at the same time.
