About the Author

Ruth Barrett, anthology editor and contributor, has dedicated her life to stopping gender oppression and providing safe, sacred, female-sovereign spaces for women and girls. She is an ordained elder priestess, ritualist, and teacher of the Dianic tradition. Barrett graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz with a degree in folklore. She went on to co-found the Temple of Diana, Inc., a nationally recognized Dianic temple, with her life partner, Falcon River. Barrett received the L.A.C.E. Award for outstanding contributions in the area of spirituality from the Gay and Lesbian Center in Los Angeles. She has written Women’s Rites, Women’s Mysteries: Intuitive Ritual Creation, and she has contributed to multiple anthologies about women’s spirituality.

Barrett is also a goddess-centered folk musician, mountain dulcimer artist, and singer. She received the Jane Schliessman Award for outstanding contributions to women’s music. She directed the Candlelight Concert at the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival for twenty-two years.

This book is an absolute must-read for women and the men who love them. Female rights and biological reality are being trampled on by the trans movement and it's time people see that. Trans-identified males will never be women and should seek to establish their own spaces or learn to better co-exist with their male peers in sex-segregated spaces. They are not female, period, and females have been stepped on enough throughout history. Enough. Children should not be subjected to trans ideology, especially when there is no data on long-term outcomes, both mentally and healthwise. It is wrong to reduce women to "uterus havers", "bleeders", "vagina owners", "cis", "birthing persons", "pregnant people" because trans-identified people are "offended" and "left out". It is nonsense to call a man's reproductive part a "lady peen", "girl d***", or claim that "there is no such thing as a female body" and "gender is a feeling". It is untrue that a person can change their sex; no matter how much surgery or hormones they take, they will always be the same sex they were conceived as. Agree? This book is for you. I highly recommend this beautiful anthology, it exceeded my expectations and there is a wide range of voices and topics covered that relate to women and their unique circumstances and needs. It is filled with wisdom, brilliance, grace, and thoughtfulness. It may just be the tonic society needs to wake up and realize how far the progressive left has strayed from its original goals, and hopefully, get back on the correct track. We all need to move past our collective fear of "offending people" and quit laying our naturally-endowed intelligence and good intentions on the sacrificial altar of "political correctness" for the untenable and nonsensical ideology of transgenderism.

Libertarian review: Your right to swing your fist ends at my face.

It's an anthology, so some of the pieces are better than others. I'm not big on the woo and mysticism, but I understand that the sex binary is important spiritually for many people and that "self-identification" steamrolls over the right to freedom of religion. However, there's only so much about the "female planet" spirituality that I can tolerate. So I'd recommend noting freedom of religion and moving on.

I found the points about female athletes especially poignant. Only today I read a study that males have larger lungs, regardless of gender identity, time spent taking hormones, or even physical size. This is an unfair advantage in many sports and the International Olympic Committee is very unscientific in its transgender guidelines.

I recommend this book for transgender people as well. Science is (obviously) on the side of sexual dimorphism, yet I have seen "sex is a social construct" argued continuously. It is important to be well-informed, no matter where you stand on this hot-button issue.

With the deepest compassion towards transgender people, I am a Libertarian and I firmly believe in "your right to swing your fist ends at my face." Religious women have the right to practice their religion, which often requires the absence of males. Athletes have a right to be classified on scientific and not political grounds in order to compete fairly.

Lastly, freedom of speech dictates that I have the right to refer to anyone with whatever pronoun I see fit, yet NYC has chosen to fine $250k for the offense of "not pretending not to know" and using the "wrong" pronoun.

So even if you dislike feminism or if you are not left-wing, this is a great anthology of people standing up for our essential freedom. The writers are telling "PC culture" to go kick rocks in a way that is truly stunning and brave.

Praise from an Eastern Orthodox Christian

I'd like to echo the reviewer who recommends reading this even if you are not on the left politically. The horrors of identity politics, particularly gender identity politics, are something that many folks can agree on despite their differences in other areas.

The spiritual perspective of the book was not new to me, as I was neo-pagan many years ago. In fact,
the emphasis on sacred mystery, love of creation, and reverence for women and the biological reality of the female body which I learned as a neo-pagan has all come to fullness in my conversion to the Orthodox Christian faith.

But even putting aside spirituality as so much "woo"', as one reviewer does -- the fact of the matter is that both my parish priest and my brother, who is a biologist and an atheist, have the very same concerns about transgender ideology. Those concerns relate to the absolute lack of objective medical science backing up the trans narrative. This book voices those same concerns, in many ways, very convincingly. And when I think about my local high school, which has a group of young girls who are in the midst of transitioning to "male" with the eager help of their parents, teachers, and the medical community who can't wait to inject them with hormones and surgically remove their healthy flesh -- I can only be grateful that the brave voices in this book are speaking out. We don't need to agree on everything to realize the current insanity of gender politics' war on women and on human biological reality in general. Our society must wake up.

An important read!

This book is incredibly important. It is through and well-researched. As with a few other reviewers, I'm not a huge fan of the spiritual elements and agree that the writing quality varies author to author. Still, this book is valuable and (as far as I know) the only one of its kind. It's a dense read and so incredibly worth the effort. I'm grateful for the women brave enough to publish this text. I so wish that THIS was what was being taught in Gender/Women's Studies courses -- an actual critical and thoughtful book that truly examines female oppression.
