One of many older feminist classics. This book is a lot more aligned with modern radical feminism than where the mainstream has gone. Which is exactly why I suggest younger feminist read it. You may not like everything Greer has to say- but I gained a lot from it as a feminist thinker, and on a surprisingly personal level. It's extremely witty and I think many women would enjoy reading through it just to hear someone voice the not-so-polite things they think about men, society, other women, etc etc. As an older book it can't do much to address the internal politics of the current movement. But that's a good thing. It's not about this advertisement or that blog scandal. It's about feminism and female sexuality.

I actually bought it more in an attempt to understand my personal sexual struggles than to educate myself about feminism- and the book is more about feminism than my personal sexual struggles. Yet both educational paths were fulfilled quite nicely.

I had to read this book for a college class. Honestly, Germaine needs authentic therapy. My heart goes out to someone who thinks this way- she believes all men hate women and then will describe how women hate her and the kind of men she has been with. Her emotions are so out of touch with human relationships. I’m sure her past has affected her in such a way that she can’t emotionally ever bond with others. There’s a kindness the filters through all her confusion- I pray she finds life in the only person that can really give it to her- hope has a name- love has a name - joy has a name - Jesus

Still reading this. It's taken me seventy three years to be ready for it. I am just eating it up. I realise it's only relevant to Germaine Greer.
I actually tried working with her view of what a man woman relationship should be, and remembered it has to be what i am experiencing, not what someone else understands.
I really appreciate the way she sees the way we are all conditioned to fit into a social pattern based on Fear. So there is hope!
particularly once we realise that we are frightened of being Free.
