As a complete beginner at guitars, I was debating between purchasing the Fender FA-100 Acoustic guitar or the Fender DG-8S Acoustic. After listening to a salesperson play on both guitars, the differences were quite stark. The DG-8S sounds smooth, rich, and loud -- almost as if the guitar is projecting the sound out to the audience. One relative even said that the DG-8S sounded as if there was an amplifier built in. The FA-100 sounded flatter and softer. It was not bad, but it did not have that extra level of rich sound that the DG-8S has. While the DG-8S is no Gibson or Martin, it was more pleasant compared to the FA-100. The DG-8S has a solid wood top, which is supposed to provide much better acoustics while the FA-100 only has a laminate top. The difference in sound made up my mind, and I gladly chose the DG-8S.

Overall, the performance has been pleasant. After having the guitar for four months, I have learned a number of chords, but it takes time and determination to continue playing. Also, don’t be worried if you take the guitar out of the pack and it sounds awful at first. The strings were already on the guitar, but they were wound so loose that they were buzzing and flapping against the body when I tried to strum it. I needed to get the tuner out and find the right notes to tighten them properly. (The correct notes are, starting from the thickest string and going down, EADGBE). After properly tuning the guitar, it sounded as good as it did in the store. Also, unless you have a humidity controlled room for guitars or a rack already built on the wall, I highly recommend a guitar stand. It should come with padding so it won’t hurt the guitar. You can prop the guitar vertically which saves a ton of space and it will always be in reach if you want to quickly play something.

I received this guitar in the mail yesterday and it is the best looking, best sounding acoustic I have played in this price range. In fact, I think it sounds better than my Taylor GS Mini, although that is not an apples-to-apples comparison, as the GS Mini is a 7/8-size guitar and the DG-8S is a dreadnought. The only issue I've noticed so far is that the pickguard is lifting up at the tip (right near the end of the neck of the guitar) and it has a sharp point that already snagged me once. I wish they would have left the pickguard off instead of put on a crappy one with crappy glue (or whatever reason my guitar has this problem). I made a video showing the problem, but can figure out how to upload it. Here's the video (55-seconds): https://youtu.be/W8L8eMIG4l4

This guitar is very nice for the price, I was very happy to see that it had a solid sitka spruce top. It needs to be tuned when you get it out of the box, but that goes for most instruments. I have been playing guitar for 3 years and I bought this guitar to take to band practice or to the beach. I would recommend this guitar to any beginner or intermediate guitar player, although an advanced player would not complain about this very nice guitar.

The bag that came with this guitar is not the best, but it will protect the guitar if you are slightly careful although the guitar itself can take a beating.

The stock strings should be changed immediately because they are probably old and corroded.

The other accessories that came with this guitar are not the best, but they do their jobs.

Pretty amazing guitar for the price. I got it as a gift a few years back and though I never fully appreciated it, I recently gave it a facelift with a new neck setup, Elixir HD strings and some cosmetic adjustments and it's turned out to be an awesome guitar. It's a solid top with scalloped bracing, which is usually reserved for more expensive guitars. A couple years of age has brought out a unique warmth to the wood, and with the right strings and lowered action it really sings. Also the fact that its fully glossed means it's more resistant to humidity/scratches/etc., which is a nice little plus. Pretty solid little workhorse guitar.

Nice sounding guitar and easy on my fingers. However the tuner that came with this guitar had a dead battery in it so i haven't been able to tune it correctly

Great sound, beautiful Mahogany back and solid construction. Lives up to the Fender name. Wish these were still manufactured in U.S.A.

Perfect for a novice beginner in my opinion. Still playing daily after 2 weeks and no problems. But, as I said I am a pure novice!
