  • Loaded with Tex-Mex Single-Coil Strat pickups, this model offers the hotter tones associated with over-wound vintage pickups.
  • Equipped with Dunlop 6105 Narrow Jumbo frets, this model offers easier chording and string-bending than similarly radiuses vintage necks.
  • Mint green pickguard, and aged knobs, pickup covers and switch tip complement the distressed finish, and inclusion of a deluxe gig bag makes this an excellent buy.

Product Description

Color: olympic white

The Stratocaster really came into its own in the 1960s, with players coaxing unbelievable sounds from it amid punishing stage shows and grueling tours. Beaten, bruised and even burned, they only got better as the years wore on - looking even cooler and feeling even more comfortable. Fender's new rosewood-freeboard Road Worn '60s Stratocaster delivers that aged look and feel - built to look, sound and feel like it has more than just a few miles on it. Designed with 1960s specs, including a nitrocellulose-lacquer finish and 6105 frets, and supercharged with Tex-Mex pickups.

I must admit that I was a little hesitant to purchase this guitar over the internet for two reasons:

1. I was worried that it would be mishandled during shipping and arrive damaged.

2. I was worried about the actual art of the 'distressing' that went into making this thing look road worn. I had fears that it would be cheesy.

As to my first concern, the guitar was double boxed and carefully wrapped ensuring a safe journey between Fender > Amazon > My house. The packing was perfect and more than adequate. It came via UPS two-day and was immaculate and very carefully handled. I even quizzed my UPS driver about it, who knows me very well. This is my third guitar I've purchased like this in the last few years and I'm happy to keep this habit up.

To my last concern, when I opened the box and unwrapped the Strat, I could not believe my eyes. The level of craftsmanship that went into the distressing is incredible, saying nothing of the guitar itself. It's actually so eye catching I find myself watching the guitar while I'm playing more than any of my others. The people over at Fender say these guitars have a certain "Mojo" about them. They really weren't kidding. They've literally distressed every piece of this guitar from one end of it to the other. The tuning knobs, screws, strap knobs, back of the neck -- all of it.

Alert: People will be jealous of this thing.

The sound is really magnificent with the overwound Tex Mex pick-ups and you can achieve a really nice, aged, clean tone that will immediately remind you of listening to something from Hendrix's Electric Ladyland or Axis, to an Eric Clapton blues tone, and it has a body to it that you just may not have heard before. It's a minor change but a very desirable one.

The neck is fast and comfortable and plays like the rosewood Strat you've always wanted.

This thing is a definite Bar Raiser. Be warned.

Yes, it's made in Mexico. But it's a great guitar. $899? I got it discounted by 20% and I feel that is a fair price. I had hesitations about the "relic" or "road worn" aesthetics but Fender has done a convincing job aging just the right amount in the right spots. Beyond the looks though the guitar just feels amazing. It's like a worn-in pair of Levis. Can you buy a stiff new one and wear it in yourself? Sure. But it may take 10 years. I have no problems with relic. In fact, from various reviews I have read it seems like Fender listened to customers and changed the relicing nature over the years. The fret board on this guitar is hardly aged. The body is in a few spots and the pick guard is not at all. Its a mint green (on the white strat). The hardware looks somewhat aged but minimally. Just perfectly balanced in my opinion. The guitar plays great. Yes, it needed a set up. The action was too high, intonation, blah blah blah, But it's a strat. Allen wrench and a Phillips screw driver and 30 minutes later I had it set up to my liking. You Tube "Strat setup" and a dozen videos will show you how to do it. The radius on the neck is tighter than most guitars but I didn't find this to be an issue at all. The frets are higher than most guitars which I like, you can bend easily. In short, what you are getting is a guitar you bond with immediately when you take it out of the gig bag. It's almost like you want to take care of it. I got the white and it truly is a beautiful guitar. Love the worn-in nature of the guitar and love the way it plays.

I was very disappointed with this guitar. First of all, it was not new and had the previous return documentation still in the box. Second of all, it was not the one pictured, but the older one with the mint green pick guard. Finally, the fret ends were the sharpest that I have ever seen, which is probably why it was returned by the person who purchased before me. I expected better from Amazon. Guitar was unplayable.

I looked forward to what would be my best guitar ever. Totally disappointed. The high E is too close to the fretboard edge. That is because the nut is cut wrong. Measured that by a guitar tech and confirmed it is wrong. The backplate is totally white and doesn't even match the pickguard so why doesn't it have the matching backplate? The rear pickup is out of allignment to the strings. Very disappointed and sent back to Amazon. This is a $900 guitar and I expect it to be right. Otherwise great idea. Just sloppy quality control at the Mexican factory.
