Finish is great. Paint job is flat out perfect. Hardware is well plated and is a nice guitar to look at when it comes out of the box...Then you'll see where your work is cut out for you.

The neck is well finished and is smooth and fast, but is badly bowed and the upper frets,#15 and up, are high and cause severe fret buzz, and results with dead strings. Was forced to shim the neck to raise the headstock end from the body in an effort to level the fretboard somewhat. The trussrod has been maxed and still shows .014" relief in it. The heal end of the neck appears to be poorly leveled for the last 6" of the board. I'll have to pull the frets and level the fretboard to make this a playable guitar and, of course, refret it. As it came out of the box, the strings were set so high that it could have been used as a cheeze slicer. A novice would have an impossible time making this an even halfway playable guitar.

The pickups are good. The neck P/U is warm and has great depth to it. Very rounded tone that produces what is expected and more. The bridge P/U has that famous Tele Bite and is strong, but mellows out correctly with the tone pot. Both together give that out of phase Tele sound that is unique to the Tele. The controls are well suited for the pickups and blend the tone well. Volume is able to cut the amount of drive to allow it to clean up for a light crunchy rhythm work, and yet jump to full crunch when taken to full volume.

As it stands at this point, it will make a great slide guitar or a fairly good rhythm guitar as long as you stay below the 8th fret for bar chords. Forget it as a lead guitar with not being able to use the upper frets, and bends are out of the question at this point.

i bought this guitar knowing that i would be changing the neck, and that was the only place where the problem was. The neck feels pretty darn good but cheap which would be expected of a squier. I was a little surprised being that this was a Squier but it was surprising all the way around! I usually play on gibson les pauls and such and this was a very well built product. i bought it because i wanted a John 5 telecaster and the fenders were $3,000 as expected. i personally recommend this item to any shredder. the Fender pickups got surprisingly good output for single coils. From shipping, this guitar and any other guitar is going to have a large or small bow in the neck when taken out of the package. i bought this to do mechanical modifications to, however, without the modifications, this guitar could easily be put at a much higher list price than $350. ive been playing guitar for eleven years now and this is a deal and a half!

no fret jobs or anything like that would be needed for this guitar in general.
