I've probably owned close to 10 small flashlights since the early 1980s: Maglites, Pelican's MityLite, and others. This is my favorite so far. It's small and light enough I don't notice it on my key ring when it's in my pocket. The light output is more than adequate for my pocket light needs--I have a bright headlamp for when I need more light. It is easy to turn on, but not too easy; in 15 months of use, it has never turned itself on in my pocket. It still gives plenty of light on the original battery. And the cost is reasonable!
Edit: Sept. 4, 2017. Two years since I bought this, and I'm still using the original battery. The light is noticeably less bright than originally, but still more than adequate for everything from poking around audio boards during performances to checking out my front yard at night.
Edit: December 2, 2017. I'm placing the Fenix 01 on the shelf for now and putting a very similar light (ThruNite Ti3) on my keychain. Everything I wrote about the Fenix is still true--in fact, it recently served as an indoor area light during a power outage for a couple hours, and it's still plenty bright on the original battery. But I'm interested in using a AAA flashlight as an ultralight headlamp while backpacking, and the ThruNite comes with a clip that allows me to clip it onto a hat visor. Plus the ThruNite has 3 levels of light, and it seems to be comparable to the Fenix in every other meaningful way--size, weight, ease of use, water resistance, ruggedness, price. So I'm testing the ThruNite through every-day carry; if it performs well there, I'll probably have a new favorite model.
i use this flashlight six days a week: i turn it on and throw it into the dark, deep end of our community lap pool when i do my swim workouts at 5 am every morning - it definitely saves me from cracking my forehead on the edge of the pool!
the light sits on the six-foot bottom of the pool for 45 minutes at a stretch ... the AAA seems to last at least a week or a little more, so the advertised time on use is about right? (i have two of these on lanyards, looped together... if one goes out, i simply turn on the other one)
