Later update. After 2 years a lot of riding I partly rescind what I said about losing rubber shim. Haven't lost it yet, course I hardly ever ride without torch in there. It's a good mount.
For those worried about on-bike security, the thumb screws can be replaced with hex socket bolts.
Only con I can think of is if you were to remove the light for reasons like entering a store and don't want to leave the light outside, it will take you a minute or so to loosen the nuts to release your flash light. Nice thing is you don't need tools to do this as you can tighten and loosen the light by hand. Remember though I use the mount upside down with the two nuts facing upward, so I have to loosen 2 nuts instead of just one.
The 2 things I really needed in my flashlight mount:
2. Hold my larger-than-average flashlight securely with no creep up/down.
It does both.
I can position it EXACTLY where I want it since it swivels on its axis and I can move it up/down on the handlebar.
It is hefty enough to hold my flashlight and I can tighten down the screws so that it will not creep out of position.
There is no way to quickly release the flashlight. You have to unscrew the bracket and it can take a while to get it loose enough for the light to slip out.
It sits quite high above the handlebar. Not a problem until you get a flat and need to flip the bike upside down and rest it on the handlebar. This thing will be sitting high enough that the front end will be resting on it. I am not comfortable doing that so I loosened the whole mount and moved it out of position as I flipped the bike over. Then, I have to re-position it and re-tighten it when I'm done. All in all it is not the end of the world but it does add another layer of irritation to the whole flat-repair scenario.
This is the second flashlight mount I bought and it is by far the more useful to me--even considering its limitations.
