what a piece of crap. And unfortunately will be the LAST time I go fenwick. For $80 I'm hoping for problem free refund???
2018 update.... Joe's Sporting Goods sent me a free replacement without question. So far so good on the new rig. That was great custom service Thanks
As for this rod, I am very pleased. I use it on my kayak where I fish salt inshore on the many tributaries of the ICW in North Florida. I have caught many fish on this rod and am very pleased with its performance.
To help protect the rod and make it last longer, I epoxied the cork with rod finish. Its the same hard epoxy that goes on rod guides. The cork will not chip, discolor (with use), or get caught on hooks because it's now hard.
For what its worth I have 4 Fenwick rods (3-12' surf, 1-9' casting, 1-6' kayak rod) The surf rods are 30 years old and still look and perform like they are brand new. Fenwick rods have never failed me.
Second to largest eyelet bent out of shape; was not shipping damage as the box was perfect.
I straightened it out the best I could but it's still out of alignment with the rest of the eyes.
Not good. Not sure if this is bad Fenwick QC or the seller's fault. Either way I am done with Fenwick, noting but problems with these rods since they switched all of the manufacturing to China.
