About the Author

Colleen AF Venable grew up in the trees of Walden, New York....well, not very high up the trees, since she always got scared, but she did carve her name in a lot of low hanging boughs. Colleen had an older sister, a dog, a cat, a million fish, and an imaginary pet hamster named, yup you guessed it, Hamisher. Why have an imaginary friend when you can have an imaginary friend that can fit in your pocket! Colleen went to Wagner College and double majored in English and Studio Art, winning the award of "biggest dork" (aka first in her class) and writing plays which went on to be produced Off-Off-Broadway. Her whole life she always loved reading comics--Calvin and Hobbes, The Far Side, and she wore out her copy of the Muppets: Short, Green and Handsome--but it wasn't until she started to get into webcomics that she also fell in love with the idea of writing comics. Now Colleen lives in New York City and her day job is designing graphic novels for First Second Books while her night job is writing graphic novels about a not-so-imaginary-anymore hyperactive hamster named Hamisher. She thinks the world is a very lovely place.

Format: Paperback
All the animals in Mr. Venezi's store, "Pets & Stuff," were quiet and going about there business except for Hamisher hamster. He was reading a book and disturbing the peace with his shouting. "Nooooooooo! Don't Do It!!" The rabbits, chinchillas, birds, hamsters, the turtle, and Mr. Sparkley-Warkley, the mouse, were wondering what on earth was wrong with their friend. Sassapants, PI(G), reached over and turned the page of Hamisher's mystery to calm him down and show him that his character would be just fine. Whew! Ham wanted to be a great detective like Sassapants and figured if he read enough mysteries he just might become one. Hamisher was going on and on because he was drinking way too much soda.

Everyone soon noticed that Mr. Venezi was making a new sign to hang in the window. Sassapants soon geared up in a harness and to check out the mysterious sign. "HELP WANTED! Must Have Good Handwriting And Know At Least 20 letters of the Alphabet and ..." Mr. Venezi never did get the names of his animals quite right, but if they made signs with all their names and drew pictures of the animals he wouldn't have to hire anyone. The signs were put on the cages, but soon a mystery was afoot. Someone was changing them! The lizards were blizzards and chinchillas were gorillas. Could the culprits be those Long Koalas (ferrets)? Would more of them be sold if Mr. Venezi got a new employee? Looked like Sassapants and his assistant, Hamisher had a mystery to solve!

This is another Sassapants PI(G) mystery the young mystery buff will love. This is the third in the series of "Guinea PI(G) Pet Shop Private Eye" mysteries that take place in Mr. Venezi's Pets & Stuff pet store. The detective is a guinea pig named Sassapants, PI extraordinaire. Mr.

I have a 9 year old who has a hard time reading. She loves these Guinea Pig, Pet Shop Private Eye books. The characters are cute and the drawings and paper high quality. The stories are complex enough to be interesting but not scary or dull. I am happy because she is reading and it isn't a chore with these books.
She is thrilled getting a book full of cute funny animals in a format that inst overwhelming. A+

These graphic novels are wonderful. Our children, ages 6 and 9, love these books. The Ferret's a Foot is their favorite so far. They are laugh-out-loud silly and so much fun! If your children love guinea pigs, then these books will be a hit!

My 7 year old son LOVES this whole series and reads them to himself over and over. The characters are cute and funny! There does NOT seem to be any mean characters, scary bad guys, or crude humor.
