FESTOOL ETS 125 EQ Random Or
From the Manufacturer
The ETS 125 is a super smooth 5 inch random orbit sander for those seeking fine finishing results without swirl marks. Designed for one hand use and with exceptional ergonomics for control and less fatigue. You can trust your finest finishes to this sander as it is not overly aggressive and is well-suited to finishing tasks whether on bare wood or between coats of finish. Equipped with Festool's Jetstream dust extraction system for highly efficient dust removal. The Jetstream system can extend abrasive life by up to 30% while keeping both the workpiece and the work environment free of dust. Jetstream creates airflow into, across, and through the pad and abrasive. Suction is applied to the outer periphery of holes and draw air from the center of the pad which draws air from outside the pad on it's edges. This creates a circulating effect that moves more air and therefore removes more dust. Jetstream pads and abrasives use the Festool StickFix adhesive system for quick and easy abrasive changes and allow for abrasive discs to be reused. The versatile ETS 125 has our finest sanding stroke at 5/64 inches (2.0 mm), and is the ideal one-handed machine for maximum surface quality when finishing or pre-sanding. Compact in size and weighing only 2.4 lbs., the ETS 125 is perfect for sanding vertical surfaces and for doing overhead work. StickFix abrasive and pad system allow for quick, hassle-free abrasive changes whether between grits or re-using paper for greater economy. Removable Plug-It cord can be used on other Festool products and makes tool changes quick and easy. The Plug-It cord also makes storage and transport easier. Technical features such as the sanding pad brake and Vibration-stop balancing put the ETS 125 in a category of its own. Made in Germany.
Top customer reviews
As other reviewers have noted, the ROTEX has more muscle, more stock-removing potential. Great--when that's what you want. The ROTEX can also be used for fine work, creating overlapping capabilities with the ETS. I don't mind a little redundancy.
With the ETS, the dust collection is, again, super. It's quieter than some other sanders in my shop. It is noticeably lighter than the ROTEX--almost 2 pounds lighter. With an abrasive disc mounted but no power cord or vacuum hose attached, my ETS 125 weighs 2 pounds 8.6 ounces while the ROTEX 125 weighs 4 pounds 6.7 ounces, a difference of 1 pound 14.1 ounces. The cord adds just under 12 ounces but of course part of the cord is usually lying on the work bench or the floor so that weight doesn't count.
When I'm doing any fine finishing, this is the tool that gets used the most. It has better manners, in that it never tries to "peel out" as the ROTEX may occasionally do. Basically it's a pleasure to use. The results look great.
Overall, the ETS 125 is 42% lighter and about 60% cheaper than the ROTEX 125. They use the same abrasive discs. Both have super dust collection. If you don't need the ROTEX muscle, the ETS is the way to go.
For me, it's another Festool winner. Glad I got it. I hope you find this helpful.

The 125 EQ hardly rotates. I don't know if I got a defective unit, or if they are all like this. Most of the time it stays stationary while it vibrates.
