Never was quite convinced by the term “Goth” to describe a genre of music. This is Post-Punk with a deliberate primal sound and bleak aesthetic( Wire’s “154” and early Siouxsie’s albums come into mind). Song construction take a more primitive and drone approach, possibly due to musical inexperience. Nonetheless the music remains captivating with it’s beautiful jarring guitar sounds, that may have paved the way for noise/shoegaze. Like Cocteau Twins’s “Garlands”, its nihilistic and somewhat dark sound might be a difficult listen for some looking for melodic or typical rock verse/chorus. I find this to be their best output, as later works tried to incorporate more pop melodies, whereas here they give off a more arty/avant-garde presentation.
This was qiute a revelation. German post-punk gothic rock that was sung by the beautiful anja huwe. It was very very listenable and has aged quite well. The first album would be followed by a much better second one.
