Good sensor. Can’t automate with lux or temp sensor in homekit to other devices.
4 out of 5 stars
Good sensor. Can’t automate with lux or temp sensor in homekit to other devices.
January 2020: I have this setup at the top of my stairs case to sense motion and a homekit automation to turn on my staircase LEDs to illuminate them at night. Mounted about 6 meters from the base of the stairs. Only down side is even at the highest sensitivity it sometimes doesn’t detect motion from the bottom of the stairs until you are half way up them already. Maybe with a better sensitivity for darker lux it would work better Like my Onvis 3 in 1 motion sensor. Also the reaction time is from the detection to running the automation is ~2seconds. If it was more sensitive to movement I’d give it 5 star. Also the sensor doesn’t look as clear as the images so it’s doesn’t really resemble an “eye” all that much. Just a blurry flash.

Great product. I hooked this up via HomeKit, and it works perfectly. I have many devices in my smart home. I have this one outside. I like that it’s a temp sensor, lux sesnor, and motion sensor. It works perfectly. I turned off the led light notification for stealth operation. I have it push a notification sent to my iOS devices letting me know there’s Motion, and they trigger my outdoor lights for 10 minutes at night, then powers off. Please be careful how you read others reviews, it sounds like many didn’t read the instructions, or don’t understand the power of HomeKit. I have 19 smart bulbs, and 19 connected devices/switches via HomeKit. I’ve dealt with bad products and good. I rate this a good product.

UPDATE: Fibaro Has made the advertised features work correctly. Now works well and settings are on par with other motion sensors. Changing to 4 stars. Priced higher than others in the same space.

The product has all the potential. But it does nothing that the commercials or owners manual suggest. It detects motion fine. Reports temperature. But has no controls to set time, size, color. I've contacted their support and they said those features were "coming soon" and half blamed Apple. The Eve motion sensor has those features working. It's not Apple. It's the App. Rushed to market before the proper app support was ready. If you are willing to wait for already advertised features buy. If not get the Elgato Eve Motion Sensor. I bought both to test. Will likely return if the app doesn't update soon.

Update- was told by Fibaro the parameter setting features would be added at end of April. It is now end of May. No updates have been provided. Still no Motion settings. Still no time to detect Motion settings. It detects motion. Nothing smart about it. Buy Elgato Eve. I would return if I could.

I thought this looked pretty cool so I thought I would give it a try. First, the light that makes it look like an eye is barely noticeable and only on IF it detects motion. Second, and a much larger problem, it kept losing its connection, and therefore was useless. Not sure if this is because it only connects through bluetooth. I used this with homekit and do not recommend. I returned it the same day I received it.

[Updated] The sensor is white with an opaque white face. It only flashes briefly when it detects motion or during reset or initial pairing (no constant "blue eye" appearance as it appears on the box). It is very light and has a thin plasticy feel.

Pros: senses motion, but also temperature, ambient light, and tampering or vibration (earthquakes?), flexible placement using the flat bottom of its clip to place it on a shelf, or screw the clip to a wall, triggers based on all sensors, HomeKit compatibility

BIG CAVEAT: Some of this is "claimed" functionality, but you should wait until their iOS app is updated beyond version 1.0.1 on the iOS app store as this version of the app doesn't let you configure or use most of these features. If an update is not available soon, I plan to return the sensor as mostly useless.

[Updated again]: Even after app update 1.1.1 there are no options to configure the sensor or use anything other than motion sensing which "clears" after 30 seconds. I can get this functionality with a cheaper HomeKit sensor... Still hoping an app update will soon fix this.

Cons: overall cheap and plasticy feel, non-typical battery size (CR123A when its time to replace), app is old school (iOS 6) looking, in addition to app issues already mentioned, the app seems limited to viewing the status of your HomeKit accessories; you can't create any scenes or activities in it (again, version 1.0.1), expensive when considering other motion sensors, but this has 3 other sensors so ~may be worth it for the functionality (when the app is fixed. Are you sensing a theme?).

The Fibaro detects motion, temperature, ambient light, and tampering, and can be used to trigger other HomeKit compatible accessories and scenes. It's round shape means it must sit in its clip (which has a flat bottom) on a shelf or in the clip mounted to a wall or ceiling. It can pivot around in the clip to point in any direction needed which is a great benefit. Its "field of view" is circular, which can be a benefit in some applications. Changes in temperature and lux (light) not reported immediately by the sensor unless they are extreme (see the manual for specifics). This makes sense, but be aware, as it may affect your expectations when using them as triggers.

I've looked at the Hue Motion and Elgato Eve Motion in comparison. The Hue detects motion and ambient light (not temp or tampering according to their web site), has a circular field of view, has great mounting options, and a very small solid feel. Hue is my favorite, except that it is NOT HomeKit compatible; it can only be used to trigger Hue lights. It is much less expensive. Elgato Eve Motion is motion only, HomeKit compatible, appears to have a horizontal field of view, which may be limiting and requires it to sit on its only flat bottom side, is very large by comparison, and has limited wall mounting and pointing options. However, the Elgato app is much more modern, and supports some of the most complete configuring of HomeKit scenes, triggers, and timers I've seen, and you can configure sensitivity and a hold duration of the sensor. I've used Elgato's app to trigger scenes based on Fibaro Motion, something I can't currently do in Fibaro's own app.

In researching and testing these sensors (for my own personal use) I focused on their software capabilities (configuring sensitivity, what triggers can I use, etc), compatibility with other accessories from other brands in my environment, and their mounting and placement flexibility. One other item to consider is how the sensors communicate with other devices; Hue uses Zigbee to communicate with other Hue accessories, where Elgato and Fibaro (in the HomeKit version) are using Bluetooth to communicate with your iPhone, Apple TV, or iPad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product use FibaroHome and Eve app to configure triggers and actions
Reviewed in Canada on April 17, 2018
I have this product now for 3 months and it works great. Some of the other comments are based on not the product under performing but the HomeKit software has limitations. You need to leverage “scenes” to configure triggers based on temperature or light intensity. Then you can set actions based on the scenes. Used Fibro Home and Eve software to get the right trigger and action configuration using scenes and the. They instantly show up in Apple Home Kit. For some reason HomeKit doesn’t allow for the same configuration of scenes as Eve does. Great product. Hope them come out with an outdoor version or a built in camera.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unreliable cheaply made expensive “thing”.
Reviewed in Canada on November 21, 2022
Convenient “when it works”, which is once a while. I’m using it in a HomeKit environment and the only plus this device has compared to my 3yo Phillips Hue sensors is the cool cat-eye look. The Phillips never drops off the network, never lies in temperature, never lies in motion. This one only works when you try to query it and for a few minutes it stays online, then quietly disappears and you need to it’s it’s own app to get it going again. Useless garbage. Returning it after 2 months of trying. Btw, I have 59 HomeKit devices in my home and this is the first such unreliable one except the iHome plugs that are no longer made or supported.

It lit up and didn't work. Worst of all the seller did not follow their policy and I ended up having to pay shipping for a defective item. There are less expensive ones out there that do work fine although I liked this one, had it worked, because it was so small.
I would have reordered, except I refuse to use this vendor over again.
