When I first heard "Take a Bow" I had to catch my breath! It is hauntingly beautiful as much as it is mesmerizing! Kevin Max' singing which is a one of a kind voice keeps you captive along With the powerful orchestral arrangements . "Dragon Attack" will have you reaching for your sword and 'Send Me an Angel" with perfect sequencing of pictures, cries out with a passion! "Shadowplay" which creates a desire,a longing. I feel "They End of the Beginning" complete this masterpiece!
Beautiful, haunting, powerful. Flowing with thought and emotion, and inspiration of the soul. This "half album" has enough girth and magic that it feels like a whole album. The song "Dragon Attack" has become a constant playback in my collection. Strong, ethereal...almost a bombastic silence drives the lyrics, backed with bold symphonic presence...you could call this the theme for "The Boy With The Dragon Tattoo" if the Dragon were the Devil and the boy was a spiritual warrior. My other favorite on the album is "Take A Bow". It is a haunting, energized condemnation of evil. Best of all it is a magnificent tribute to the soundtrack (and possibly the concepts) of TRON. Humming, buzzing, soaring synthesizers inspire a tower of strength and the finger of GOD pointed angrily at the Darkness. Kevin Max is the answer to Christian music's question: Will holy music ever be as great as secular music? Yes. Even better! Max is a poet of lyric and sound. He creates an atmosphere of music that rides against and with his words like a spiritual tsunami of war and peace. I recommend all of his works, but "Fiefdom Of Angels: Side One" is a triumph. These are lyrics and sound for the thinking soul who wants to experience the pushing of the boundaries of modern Christian music. I can only imagine that "Side Two" will be just as fantastic. I am as hungry for the sequel as any holy album could drive me. Buy this album, "Fiefdom Of Angels: Side One". I recommend it with extreme sincerity. It is a masterpiece!
After quite a trip through electronica (Cotes D'Armor), Kevin Max wastes no time in building his next massive project, Fiefdom of Angels----a novel, graphic novel (and perhaps future film, video game...?). Thus far, Mr. Max's narrative has only seen the light of day in the teaser Zero Issue, website, and now as the first part of a full-length accompanying soundtrack. Five tracks; four 80s covers and a fully realized track from a decade-old demo from the Stereotype Be days ("End of the Beginning").
Max combines eastern pop and cello rock with a strong chamber tone in quite a theatrical enthusiasm. I found myself not being distracted at all comparing these new covers to their originals, but instead felt completely immersed in a hauntingly sonic world that felt EPIC, filled with a choir of Kevin Max's and a whole orchestra. Side One is impressive, most impressive.
Spell binding, Enchanting ... Are just a few words that come to mind when descibing not just the voice of Kevin Max but this album as well. For those who have followed him throughout the years know that you can spot him out of a crowd. His music is moving and flows light with a heavy point. True fans will appreciate the ever growing spin of his creative mind and new fans will crave to know more about this magical world that is Kevin Max.. His play on " Send Me an Angel" is the works of a Mad Man pure genius. As soon as it starts you feel like you have entered a different period in time, becoming sucked into a place that leaves you catching your breath. " Dragon Attack " Has you pumped and ready for battle. This track alone stands as a soundtrack for war. " Fiefdom Of Angels" takes you on a magic carpet ride full of twist and turns. The 80's with the soul of Mr. Bowie and the kick of Queen all in a medieval setting, I can't think of anything better . Max dares to be different staying true to his love of music and the open minded lovers.
I could go on and on. But trust me when I say that this is a CD that you should have in your collection. Considering myself a forever fan of his work . You can't go wrong with " Fiefdom Of Angels" or any of his music for that matter.
