About the Author

Lt. General (Ret.) Michael T. Flynn has served as the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and the Senior Military Intelligence Officer in the Department of Defense. He also founded the Flynn Intel Group, a commercial, government, and international consulting firm. He lives in Virginia.

Michael Ledeen is the author of War Against the Terror Masters and The Iranian Time Bomb. He spent twenty years at the American Enterprise Institute where he held the Freedom Scholar chair, and now holds a chair at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. He lives in Maryland.

I think General Flynn goes a bit far when suggesting a national security strategy focused on threats from Islamic terrorism. If he had laid out an analysis that explained how a a small number of violent adventurers (ISIS) could set off a chain of events whereby the nascent totalitarianism of Islam might be stirred, not for the first time, into a military/political plot for world domination, he would have something. But he didn't, so continue to ll think of "Islam" as little more than one of the many tons of baggage the "third world" is burdened with.

But his thoughts on field intelligence in military operations might just be revolutionary. Our military is notorious for being top heavy, pompous, and bureaucratic. Flynn is anything but. Give him a read

Good ideas... in particular fighting ideology

At first, I felt hard to repeatedly see in the lines of the book the resentment #MichaelTFlynn has to the Obama administration who let him go from his post. Not sure why and I am no longer interested in finding out. This member of the intelligence community has the credentials to be able to offer this kind of sound advice. In the "How to Win" chapter he nails it in particular describing the need to "wage and ideological war against Radical Islam" as first step.
