About the Author

NICKI VON DER HEYDE is a South African of British extraction who grew up in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. She read History and English at the University of Cape Town and has worked as a specialist battlefields tour operator for almost two decades. She is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and an honorary life member of the Anglo-Zulu War Historical Society. Her company, Campaign Trails, is a three times winner of the coveted KZN Tour Operator of the Year award.
