4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 1,039 ratings

Laissez les bon temps rouler!

The pleasure of your company is requested at the most over-the-top wedding New Orleans has ever seen…

When Poppy Fields, Hollywood IT girl and super-secret agent, agreed to be a bridesmaid, she anticipated gallons of Sazerac, memorable parties and handsome groomsmen. Instead, she’s dodging bullets.

Juggling wedding showers, exploding buildings, picnics, black magic, lunches in the Vieux Carré, and murder can be tough on a girl. Good thing Thor is there to escort her—until he disappears.

Poppy must outwit smugglers primed to flood the U.S. with a dangerous new drug (one Poppy knows all too well), save Thor, and get to the church on time. If she fails, she may end up dead. Or—worse—late to the wedding.

Julie Mulhern is the USA Today bestselling author of The Country Club Murders and the Poppy Fields Adventures.

She is a Kansas City native who grew up on a steady diet of Agatha Christie. Truth is--she's an expert at calling for take-out, she grumbles about walking the dog and the dust bunnies under the bed have grown into dust lions.

Great Characters - Fast Pace
Dollycas’s ThoughtsPoppy Fields is back and taking on New Orleans! Our Hollywood It girl was set to relax at all the parties leading up to her college roommate Adele’s wedding before she headed off to her super-secret agent training, but while meeting at the Columns Hotel for drinks chaos erupts when a G-Wagon spins out of control. Behind it, a Range Rover stops and men with guns pile out and start shooting. Many are hit, some die, but Adele and Poppy are safe. Adele, a nurse, rushes to help. Poppy rushes to the first officer that arrives and shares all she can about what happened. And we are only midway through Chapter 1!Poppy tries to attend to all her wedding commitments but she had to let her new secret agent boss know what happened especially what she did at the end of Chapter 1. He sends the cavalry in the form of Thor (not his real name/Chris Hemsworth’s doppelganger). Good thing too, because we have just scratched the surface of Poppy’s time in NOLA, she is there for 2 weeks and danger seems to follow Poppy everywhere she goes!I absolutely love this series! The first two books in this series made my Best Reads List of 2018 and this one is headed to this year’s list. Ms. Mulhern continues to top herself. She takes suspense and turns it inside out with antics that will have you laughing out loud. While in New Orleans Poppy is staying in a house that appears to have a resident ghost. She meets a Voodoo priestess, gets in numerous shootouts and car chases, a building explodes, takes on drug smugglers, some who want her dead after what happened in Mexico, (book #1), has to search for Thor and Jake, of course, he’s in town too! All I can say is that I am so thankful she learned a few fantastic things from her father, like Krav Maga and amazing gun skills. She also learned a few things from her mother and looking so much like her celebrity mom doesn’t hurt either.I have learned one thing about this series. When you start reading you will not be able to stop so plan accordingly. Lightning fast pace, characters that you want to root for, action, twists, turns, and fabulous dialogue that will have you in stitches. Poppy is a fantastic protagonist and when partnered with Mark (Thor) they are unstoppable.Come for the wedding, watch out for those flying bullets, use all those luncheons and dinners to get information, and oh yeah, stay alive to see your friend say her I do’s. What an awesome time! I loved every minute!! I can’t wait for the next adventure!! and maybe a little training if she can squeeze it into her busy schedule. 🙂

Another fantastic book in this series!

I'm trying to pace myself so I don't read all these great books so quickly but it's too hard. I'm obsessed, lol.

Just like the previous two, this is action packed and fast. It's an exciting and nail-biting read.

I adore the MC. She's strong, quirky, and just plain lovable. I also adore Mark Stone (Thor). He's the perfect match for her. Supportive and protective but not in an overbearing way. He knows she can take care of herself and doesn't put her belittle her or put her down.

I still hate Jake and wish he'd just go away. He's a chauvinistic pig. The comments he makes about her are unforgivable. I'm not sure why she puts up with him.

My favorite character though is Consuela, the chihuahua!

I loved that the setting for this book was New Orleans. The author did a great job capturing the vibe of the city. It felt like I was there. I could practically hear the sounds and smells. Loved the touch of voodoo, I'm a huge fan of paranormal mysteries so it was cool seeing a hint of that here.

Poppy Fields has never been to New Orleans but when her best friend Adele Coombs is marrying her childhood sweetheart Carter Arnault nothing could keep her from being a bridesmaid. As Poppy and Adele are enjoying sitting on the veranda of Columns Hotel, a car came speeding up St. Charles Avenue and crashed into a pole. Gun in hand a man staggers out of the car and starts shooting, Poppy pushes Adele to the ground and when another man appears, she is able to get a good look at the man. Detective Rene Langlois doesn’t know that Poppy is the daughter of Chariss Carlton the famous movie star. However, when Poppy mentions being in town for Adele’s wedding he allows her to leave. OF course she didn’t expect to find a known drug dealer in the back of her car, Vic Klein who was a member of the Mexican drug lord that had kidnapped Poppy in Book 1. With bullets flying, Poppy kills Vic Klein, right after he shot a police officer in the shoulder. Again, Detective Rene Langlois is at the scene. This is a great story, almost comical at times. If you’ve ever been to New Orleans you will almost be able to follow Poppy. Another great story by author Julie Mulhern, can’t wait for book 4.

I love the main character, Poppy and her pup! Not a boring story about a woman with a broken heart moving to the beach or an inherited house. Poppy is modern & exciting in an excellent series of interesting places doing work incognito and making a difference. Entertaining, with awesome characters. You need to read this series!!

I'm loving this series. Poppy is in New Orleans for a friends wedding. Trouble finds her and she finds trouble. Mark has his hands full and I love how supportive he is. Those two get closer in this book. Luke shoots himself in the foot every time he turns around when it comes to Poppy. You would think he'd learn. He just can't see past his fear for her. We get New Orleans magic, ghosts, dirty agents and more. Enjoyed this fast paced book. Poppy saves the day, more than once.
Told from Poppys POV. No cliffhanger. Each book is complete, but as ongoing arc.

Phew, book 3. Maybe I read it too fast after book 2. Sometimes you need some distance between books because wow, the shootings.... they seem to come every five minutes with Poppy in the middle.

Poppy is in New Orleans for a very elaborate wedding and it seems again everyone is out for her. She dogs bullets, avoids kidnappings and gets squished a bit between Jake and Mark/Thor. Of course Poppy can hold her own, as always.

It was a fast read for me. There were a little too many names for me to keep up with and - again - a plot about drugs. Let's hope the next will focus on something else. Enjoyable.

I enjoyed this book. The whole idea of the bad guys getting out smarted by a a ditzy girl is nothing new but oh so entertaining and I am just loving this series. Poppy and Consuela (her small but feisty chihuahua) are the perfect pair to dish the sassy out to the boys and kick butts, like only they can do. The rest of the characters are fun and I liked the unusual help from the books, very amusing. New Orleans is such a great city to set a story in and the author used the colourful history to good use to make an entertaining adventure that I am glad I joined Poppy on. The mystery was worked in well with all the wedding plans and with so much going on it kept me reading until the very end. Definitely will be getting the next book.
Poppy is in New Orleans for her friends wedding but instead of getting caught up in the preparations she is dodging bullets, when a drug cartels has a gun fight in the middle of the street. With a medium's predicting it isn't over, Poppy has no choice but invite a fake boyfriend to the wedding. Can she and Stone find out what is going on before a bullet hits them? The wedding just go despite building blowing up and people getting kidnapped, it's just a matter of whether Poppy will be alive to be in it. Then again she might not have started her training but that doesn't mean you should write her off just yet.
